Anything less than 3 really should be fine. Depending on a few things.

    I had 2.25 when I did mine.

Isn't backspacing the measurement we're the tire is being brought back into the fender? Not entirely sure on what backspacing means lol. Cause I'm going to get a set of Scs F5. But I want to do the tundra brake mod

BS is the measurement from the inner lip of the wheel to the inner mounting surface.

This. It's a measurement of the wheel.

So while we’re on the subject of backspacing and fitting tires I have a question.

My wheels that I bought last year have 4.15” backspacing meaning the back of the wheel sits closer to the fender than I want, I think. To run a wider tire than I have now I would need a 1.25” wheel spacer to change the backspacing to 2.9”?

Or do I have that all wrong. I know there are other points where tires will rub depending on the overall dimensions but a spacer would help for this particular wheel?

    What size tires?

A lower BS wheel or adding spacers is going to alleviate frame rub, but will increase how much you rub in the inner fender/pinch weld area. It’s a compromise, but you can cut/smash/bend the pinch weld area to fit. You can’t do that to the frame.

FWIW, I am rubbing frame a little with 255/85/16 with 4.0” BS.

    Wheel width also changes this.

4'' BS on a 8'' wide wheel vs a 10'' wide wheel will be most pushed out then the 8'' wheel.

I’m not really sure yet. These wheels are boxed up in a closet. They were an impulse buy with plenty of tread left on my 265/70/R16’s Duratracs on stock wheels.

I’ve been stalking other 17” wheel first gen build threads to see what they’re running but with this information here I guess I need to see what backspace those guys have as well.

I have ray10s which are a 8.5'' wide wheel and 4'' BS with a 255/80r17(33x10). fit great. Little rubbing on the pinch weld but all 33s do that.

It’s a 7” wheel so the tires won’t be very wide anyway.

Yes measurement wise you would be correct. Typically in my experience though, changing the back spacing helps more to get a tire off the frame/uca's but will put a tire more into the fender. Backspacing is a bad way to go about fixing fender rub. Typically fixing fender rub is best suited for an angle grinder, and a BFH.

Wow. THat is super narrow for a wheel, even more narrow than OEM. what tire are you going to run? You sure it can fit on a 7''?

I’m thinking about a 255/75R17 Falken Wildpeak. That’s a little taller than my current tire and pretty much same width. Recommended tire size according to the literature with it is 265/70R17. It’s the Sema TRD wheel:

ahh those are made fore 2nd gen/3rd gen tacos. They have over 5'' BS so will be sucked in more to the truck. Also should be a bit more than 7'' wide, closer to 7.5.

You might rub a bit do to it being inboard so much on the frame or UCA. But would be an easy fix if it did.

I don’t know, the paperwork says 17X7 with 4mm offset so it should be 4.16 backspace. If they measure 7.5 that should take it up to 4.41 backspace...if these online calculators are accurate.
