You don't put on a lot of miles, why not just trade the F150 and the '84 in on a new(er) 3/4 or 1 ton gasser? The cost difference between a 3/4 and 1 ton is minimal, might as well go for the gusto. If it were me, I wouldn't trade 2 perfectly good running vehicles to take a chance on a 10 year old truck. If it was well maintained, the age isn't anything to be afraid of but who knows how it's been treated or how hard it's been worked in it's lifetime. A pre-emissions diesel would be fun though... I'd get a good tune for it right off the bat to make it run right though, nothing crazy performance, just a tune to make it run as it should. You'll get better mileage out of it also.
What are you seeing? I see the standard crap, nothing to get overly excited about. :notsure:

The plan at some point in the next year or so is to start a side hustle doing landscaping/tractor service work which would involve a lot more towing that I'd want the diesel for. If the side hustle took off I'd either drop back to part time at the current job or find a different one with fewer hours. The current job is a decent schedule, Monday-Friday with the occasional Saturday, but the company keeps expanding their footprint without adding any more staff to the office. So, at this point it's balls-to-the-wall from the minute the phone turns on at 7:30 until it shuts off at 5:15. 52+ hours of that a week is starting to wear, honestly. The OT is nice, but not that nice. Plus, I don't have kids or a family to support, so if I'm going to start my own business now is the time to try, since if it fails I don't have to worry about people depending on me to survive.

And there's also the ancient diesel sounds and the

tell me about it, pushing 1600 in excise and reg fees in 2 years on my truck. The good thing about the taco, is at least once the percentage drops, my truck might be worth more than what the feel its is. Where as a lot of vehicles I feel the value is nowhere near what the formula says it is.

What annoys me is that it's based on MSRP instead of what you pay. MSRP on my truck is $43K and change, but I did pay even close to that. I understand why they do it that way, but I don't like it.

    2k on a new F250? That's worse than MA by a lot!

Assuming an MSRP of $60k, you'd be looking at the following for excise in MA
In the model year of manufacture: $1350
    2nd Year: $900
    3rd Year: $600
    4th Year: $375
5th Year and Every Year After: $150
Add about $65/year for reg and inspection.

My "paid in full" discount this year was $16 for my insurance

New York is nice and you just pay the tax right up front (just sucks its 8%) and can wrap it into the loan. Registration every two years but Inspection is still every 1 though.

Oh in Maine they go both ways. Pay sales tax for the purchase then pay excise tax to reg the ride. So when I bought my new 17, I paid about 2,400 in sales, excise and reg fees.

I'll trade you. My tax is 7%, and excise tax is 46 per thousand here. If I bought a $40k truck, my 1st year tax bill would be $2k!
