Rear Shock Bushings

    I just replaced my standard length 2" remote resi rear shocks for a set of extended length 2" smooth body shocks that I got from Wheeler's Off-Road Inc and had a little bit of an issue.

    The old shocks I have used a pair of rubber bushings at the frame mounting point and a single nylock nut and they mounted easy as pie. These new ones came with some type of polymer bushings that wouldn't allow the mounting stud to extend farther enough through the mount to get even a single thread engaged and also if mounted straight into the shock mount would not allow the shock to sit at the correct angle to meet the axle. Instead of a single nylock nut these new ones came with a regular nut and a thin jam nut which means I need even more thread poking up through than before.

    In order to get the shocks on my truck I ended up having to use the new polymer bushing on the bottom against the shock but install the old rubber bushing on top of the mount and re-use the old nylock nuts and even then I had to compress the rubber bushing an awful lot to get the nut all the way on.

    I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so what they were able to do to resolve it? Also hoping maybe someone from Icon can weigh in on things.

    That looks like the same rubber bushings and nylock nut I had on my old RR shocks. They installed no problem, it's just the new ones with the polymer bushings and jam nut that are an issue. I will need to take a picture when I get a chance.

    You just wait... you gotta notch the bucket mount so it doesn't hit your reservoir line at full compression or your shock will start leaking all over and lose rebound

    This is what I pulled from my receipt from Wheelers:

    IVD 56503-EXT 2.0 Rear Shock for 05+ Tacoma
    with 2.5"-3.5" Lift (OME Pack)

    Take a look at your install instructions. The top nut doesn't have to be tightened down all the way. As long as things haven't changed, the top of the threaded stem should be flush with the top of the nylock nut.

    Also, if you're having trouble engaging the threads on the threaded stem, try lowering the truck (off jack stands) so it's own weight helps compress the lower bushing and push the stem further through the mounting bracket. Shouldn't be too difficult with a little effort.

    I already tried putting the jack under the axle and compressing the shock, problem is the polymer bushings don't compress at all, they are solid.

    @Icon_Adrian I was sent part number 611006 with my rear shocks and i need 611007. I am having the same issue as described above, next to impossible to compress them and it seems like the shaft is slipping on one so i can tighten anymore. Do i have to order the correct bushings or can Icon send them to me?

    The 611006 is our HD bushing kit and the 611007 is the Med. Duty bushing kit. The height of the bushing is the same when it's all stacked together. The HD uses a jam nut to hold it and the Med. uses a nylock nut. I recommend attempting to install the upper bushing with the vehicle on the ground. The added misalignment at full extension may add difficulty to the install.

    @Icon_Adrian I tried to lower it but still too tight to get the nut on enough. Everything I am seeing and now looking again at the instructions show a diagram of the medium bushings, will icon void the warranty if i put bushings outside of the instructions? there are posts on this site where they have contacted icon for leaking and were turned away due to small improper install issues (not following instructions). I also noticed that the tube on the rear shock came lose pretty easily, i tighten it back up but a bit of oil looks to have come out when i lowered it in an attempt to secure the bushings. is this going to be a bigger issue? do i need to get the nitro levels checked now?

    what is the difference between the HD bushing and the medium? which do you recommend getting for 2.0's? Is there a performance difference?
