I followed this nice rig through salute Salem just a bit ago, looked like it had a hidden winch setup in the front also. Super nice truck, is this one of you all?

I got some questions regarding how i mounted my racks to the inside bed rail track. I couldn't find the corresponding photos but here they are now!

Essentially I bought 1-3/4" elevator bolts, used an angle grinder to trim the edges to fit in the tracks. I used a pair of vice grips to square the bolts up.... note, in the photo the vice grips are squared with square on the bolt... that's a lot of square talk.... I ran the vice grips flush with the angle grinder which gave me perfect edges on each side. In combination with Teflon nuts I have had zero issues with this mounting technique. Total cost, under 12 bucks for 8 bolts and nuts.

I used an impact drill to tighten the nuts.

Yeah, I thought it might have been yours based on your thumbnail pic. This one had a front winch plate behind the factory bumper, with two red shackles on either side. Looked good. I followed it from Kuebler down Liberty through downtown. He probably thought I was crazy, I was in a dump truck trying to keep up so I could scope it out, lol.

Looks like an awesome turnout! I can't wait for the next one. And a TSF run would be awesome!

I am busy the weekend of the 17th, but I would be willing to lead a group around a different weekend - preferably a Saturday unless there's a REALLY good compelling reason to do Sunday.
If you want to join, give me an idea what works. I'd want to cap out the attendee list at 8 rigs, only because getting more makes the process REALLY slow and unmanageable (co-pilots are highly encouraged and still really fun!).
Please give me an idea of your experiences, comfort level, and capabilities so I can get an idea of what trails we can hit.
If you are all inexperienced, I could do a sort of hands-on training class instead - the class would be explanation of recovery gear, basic recovery techniques, and some driving techniques. I can explain how your 4x4 works, HI/LO, gear selection, lockers, but I don't have the fancy new electronics so I might not have all the answers on those systems! Let me know if you need this format or what your feelings are about it. I hate it when I get thrown into the deep end, so I wouldn't do that to you.

Since this would be new faces, I'll give the standard rundown. I have a habit of trying to explain everything at once, so I'll try to rein myself in, sorry!
    • You need the following before you can come:
      • Required by Forest Service:
        • 5lbs extinguisher or 1 gal(?) water (I think that's the amount they want)
        • garden shovel
        • OHV pass. There's instructions in the sticky
      • Required by me
        • Front and rear recovery points. Minimum front recovery point is the TRD hook. Minimum rear is a factory tow hitch. If you have questions, ask.
        • A mechanically sound vehicle. We aren't mobile mechanics
        • If you don't have recovery gear, bring some cash. Doing recoveries is always free and part of the fun, but in the RARE occasion you get stuck and the process of helping you breaks a winch line or a recovery strap, be kind and help compensate somewhat. I can tell you a story of why I feel strongly about this.
    • Meetup would be at the North Plains McDonald's
    • Rigs LEAVE at 9AM to caravan to TSF. The caravan will arrive approximately 10AM at Rodger's Camp Staging Area for air-down, etc.
    • Hit trails!

    Count me in!
skill levels... 1= not so much to 5 5= knowledgeable/skill/ experience

    knowledge of my truck 5
    skill 1 on rocks
    skill 5 sand and snow
    Recovery 2
    over all 3.5

The difference between a pro and a professional...

A pro knows how to get unstuck, a professional prevents getting stuck.

I second on Mikes post. Also, copiolots are awesome. I trailered my truck up last year to wheel, ended up riding with mike the whole time. I had a blast hahaha.

Thanks for the info, sounds like blue trails will be OK for you. Rocks aren't going to be a concern much until you get to the black trails. Blues mean tight corners and avoiding trees, so it's knowledge of truck size and where to pivot (hint: a truck pivots at its rear wheel. As soon as you get your rear wheel in line with a tree, you can safely turn to get around it, and not turn INTO it).

My definition of a professional is someone who avoids getting stuck, develops a sane strategy for getting unstuck, and comes away with zero body damage.

If you want to discuss this run, I have no problems with you doing any logistic planning and me just being tour guide. You aren't hurting my feelings by any means! :) I just like to stick to the early timing in the day to give us daylight, and like Saturdays because it gives Sunday to recover.
