You don't put just any bias-ply tires on a Rolls-Royce...

There's a company in England that makes really good ones!

IMG_1493.jpg I saw one of these next to where my wife works this morning. It looked a bit out of place with all the snow and ice. :notsure:
    Edit. Added actual photo.

It may be the difference between nylon bias and rayon. Rayon was used on aircraft and heavier vehicles... I wonder if Rolls used this material.

    More than likely!

Also, Rolls-Royces newer than 1966 use radials.

If you have a Rolls-Royce older than 1966, chances are you are going to want to garage it most of the time and only bring it out on nice days...

If it's not a frequently-used daily driver, then bias-ply is fine!

Wow, if I was in that market I'd be looking for a Maybach.

Sorry, but those who can afford the new phantom won’t care about any of that

This particular Phantom is located at a dealer in Hong Kong. With the 110% tariff, the price of this car is about US$1.5 million!

The new Rolls-Royces aren't selling in HK. The salesman at this dealer has four or five 2017 models that have been sitting for over a year!

In the 1970s and 1980s, there really was not much difference between the bodyshells of Rolls-Royce and Bentley models...

For starters, the Bentley models were cheaper (though not by much). Here we have a Bentley Continental (top) and a Rolls-Royce Corniche (bottom), both 1985 models.

The most obvious difference you will see between the two is the radiator grille....

For those of you who do not know, Rolls-Royce motorcars are one of my more specific obsessions...

Revisions from my friend, who read the thread...
"Both very well-written threads, and it’s a pleasure to see correct information being put out there.

    Just for interest:

    1. Aircon became available in 1956
    2. A/C was standardised upon introduction of the Silver Shadow in 1965 (North American Market, optional elsewhere until 1968 when standardised for all markets).
    3. The brake pedal going through the floor, in addition to ‘feel’, is because it follows the natural downward arc of the foot.
    4. ABS was never an option, but was standardised from 1987 for all markets except North America (standardized in 1989).
    5. Automatic gearbox was standardised in 1955 upon the advent of Silver Cloud. Manual gearbox was to special order only, and 7 were built, 6 on Bentley (5 ‘S’ series Continental and 1 ‘S’ saloon) and only one on Silver Cloud. The option was withdrawn in 1957."

UPDATE: Only the early 1975-1976 Camargues did not have the lip above the rear bumper. All other Camargues, 1977-1986 and regardless of market, did have the lip.

The best way to tell older Camargues from newer ones is the angle of the front quarterlight.

If you happen to see one at a car show, look through the window. If it has the factory radio, this is a great way to tell the approximate year...

Early models had a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with a separate 8-track player, late 1970s and early 1980s had a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with a separate Pioneer cassette deck, and the latest (1984?-1986) had a fairly modern Blaupunkt cassette player with digital AM/FM tuning.
