The Does Everything, but Sucks at Everything Build

The cooler looks good. My PS fluid is always brown as shit. I don’t think it was swapped out enough before I bought it. I have been doing a flush and detergent cleanse through the whole system. It’s a highly concentrated power steering fluid with detergent from valvoline. You run a whole gallon through the system. Suck fluid out. Fill it with the cleaner. Crack the wheel lock to lock over and over again. And repeat until you go through the whole gallon of cleaner. Then repeat the process with ps fluid. Until you have put a full quart of ps fluid in it. Valveoline backs it with a full warrantee as long as you keep up on their scheduled maintenance. And yes they pay out on it. The shop my brother works at has had valvoline pay out on failed ps systems that had the treatment. The pay out amount varies on how many miles are on the vehicle when the first valvoline treatment was done. The downside is you have to have a certified shop perform the treatment everytime so it shows up on the cars report. Mine is only covered for $500 from valvoline when I started doing this. But hey that’s $500 I don’t have to pay when my ps fails.

*if you chose to do it yourself it’s still a damn good ps fluid cleaner and fluid change.

I run it through every 10k miles due to the ps system being over texted by 35s and hard off-road and it has helped quite a bit. The fluid seems to be getting cleaner and cleaner every change but still comes out pretty dark.

 

Mine rarely gets that hot without a re-gear. Normally 170-190. Even on the trails. The only time mine get that hot is when it comes out of “overdrive” and I keep my foot in it. I just bump it into 4th and the temps come right back down. I watch it pretty close now cause I didn’t realize it was getting hot out of overdrive until I put the scan gauge in.

 

It doesn’t get over 200 while crawling in 4lo in the heat??

No. Stays right at 182-186 all day in 4low. Doesn’t seem to care as long as I leave it in low range. 2wd high it gets up to 190-200 then I’ll put it in low and the temps come right back down. I don’t have the fancy cooler you do(on my list to do). Just the stock one from the tow package.

 

You running 35s? I know 3 others who run 35s and had high tranny temps, I know it helped us a ton.

 

Yep. 315 70 17s. The temps haven’t been too extreme so that’s why I keep putting off putting the cooler in. Not too excited to screw with ATF and running lines. Just a pain in the ass I don’t wanna deal with yet. Too many other things going on with the truck that I gotta deal with first.

 

Yeah I feel you. I did a full flush and pan drop at the same time so it wasn’t too bad.

 

How many miles and how did your fluid look?

Think the previous owner ever did a change on it? Or was that the first?

Any complaints on those Hankooks?

 

He said he did but I really don’t think so! We did my buddies at around 100k and his wasn’t too bad.

Took 14 or so quarts until the fluid coming out was fresh lol

I love the hankooks but I bought them used and the inside edge was slightly more warn. They seem to be wearing kimda fast and cupping also but they do awesome on the road and offroad.

 

Any chucking out of the lugs?

 

Not bad at all.

 

Those will probably be my next tire. Only complaint I've heard about them is wear fast, which is a common complaint about a lot of MT tires.

 

I had 3 sets of them in 35", they were a bitchen tire in all conditions for sure. I can confirm they wore fast and is why I stopped buying them, I was averaging a set a year and it just got to much. I was looking to get another set when I decided to get rid of my crappy GY MTR's (the absolute worst tire that I ever had) but was hugely disappointed at the cost at nearly $250 bucks each when I was getting them previously at $210 bucks each.

 

Took the front off to check the bumper mounts. They looked like the welds on the frame were starting to crack. If they are they haven't cracked all the way through the sheet metal, so that's good news. Found several cracks starting to develop on the sheet metal in other areas. Some of them are tiny and barely noticeable.




Main cracks continue to grow. 1 of them grew about an inch. Another jumped and started to rip at the spot welds and another looks like it's going to go from 1 to three cracks. All from a single trip to Utah.




Also apparently I need to rethink my ARB dual compressor mounting because the damn thing is sinking into what was the battery support.

Looks just like what I did to the front of my truck on Tuesday after I got back. Some of your cracks grew a TON from that trip. Are you going to create new bumper mounts to the frame before you put the bumper back on?

 

Yeah, I might as well since it's all disassembled. I'll put some 1/4 plate in for the bumper mounts and tie it back along the frame similar to how @MonkeyProof did his.

 

Turns out I was right about the bumper mounts cracking. They are cracked, I just caught it before they got really bad.

 

Too bad about the core support. All too common problem on our trucks.
