That crap hit me like a train.. no pun since I drive the damn things! Against my better judgement I went to work the day after it hit me and not that was the worst ever. Went to the urgent care and got tamiflu and started feeling myself again about an hour after I took the first dose. That stuff does wonders and it's too bad you need a script to get it.

I felt it kick in after the first dose, but that was Wednesday night, today is the first day since I am feeling better.

Cool, drive a train huh, always wanted to look inside and locomotive.

lol it's not too impressive. A U.S. comfort cab is about a 10'x12' rattle box. Driver(engineer) on the right side, conductor on the left, radio and a/c and heater. Got a throttle handle, engine brake handle and automatic braking handle (all railcars have brakes). They have been implementing all kinds of new technology in them lately. Most recently a system that absolutely will not let a train go by a red signal or stop indication to prevent collisions. Most people think they drive themselves much like an airplane. But that's definitely not the case.

I get it, but was into model railroading as a kid and we had a railroad track behind our house. Just one of those things that you want to see, even if it is just a tin can,,,,umm very large one at that...

We have a guy in our gun club that works for UP, when he does show up he always talks about how many cows he hit since the last time we say him...he tells the funniest stories..

Hahaha we do hit a lot of those. Cars too believe it or not.. very unfortunate people can't wait a few minutes to avoid life/death situation. It doesn't get reported most accidents we have, so it happens more than you'd think

Positive train control. Depends if the rail line turns it on or not if memory serves. Europe and Japan have had that for like ever. I sometimes wish I could be a loco engineer but I did other kind. Lol some bnsf locos are radio controlled though.

Yup.. PTC. UP has remote controlled locos but they stay in the yard switching out cars and building trains. Another system, trip otptimizer, runs the train for you but once you get any signal other than a green(clear) you have to take control.. most of the time that system doesn't work as soon as we get on board, it works 45% of the time, every time.

I usually go to corpus and back but right now due to seniority(how the railroads determine who gets what jobs) I'm stuck going to Laredo. Take a train out of town, get put in a hotel for the night/day and after 10 hrs they can call you to take a train back to SA. It's a tough schedule but it pays the bills and lets me do stupid shit to my truck! Not to mention the benifits are outstanding.

Ya the guy I know works on a route west of Hondo.

I have heard the benefits are great, guess it the reason I stay with the City as along with military time I'm almost to 20 years.
