Friends, fellow fathers, mothers, share what kind of car seat you have set up in your 3rd Gen Tacomas (2016+). Tell us your model Tacoma (access or double) and the kind of car seat you have. The more info the better :)

    If needed/FYI see below
    2017 Tacoma manual: https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM04013U/pdf/OM04013U.pdf (page: 55).

I searched the TW forum and didn't find anything like this so here we go. Currently I am in the market for a child safety seat so your suggestions and information would be much appreciated!

I had our Chico nextfit behind the passenger side rear facing and tested flipping it around to forward facing behind me on the drivers side. This particular seat is not going to work. I am 6’2” wife is 5’11” we need to fit a key fit 30 carrier behind the passenger for the new baby and a front/rear facing behind me for our 2yo. Not going to happen easily in a double cab taco.

So I found this install video... for that seat and it looks like the lady is in a HUGE vehicle...

Just skip to the latter half of the video to see the install into the vehicle...

I have a Chicco Keyfit 30, I actually put the base/car seat in the middle and use the latch on each side to anchor. I found this way the car seat snuggles itself in the middle and both myself and wife can adjust our seats however we want, otherwise, we run into a length issue. I will try to get a pic for ya this weekend

We only have 1 baby so far but I can see how it starts to get difficult when you have 2 or 3 kids. At that rate I may have to look into bolting down the car seats in the bed of the truck---is that in the manual??:facepalm:

I have a rear-facing “Safety 1st” car seat that’s mounted in the middle of the rear seat. With one kid and only needing one seat it allows my wife and I to adjust our seats as we please. It’s also safer for the kid being mounted away from the doors.

Agreed, the only thing I would say about where we mounted it is that my wife can't lift the car seat up and into the middle position as it requires a little shoulder strength. It's not a problem for us because she never drives the truck so its always me latching her in.

That is a good photo to see.

We've got a Keyfit 30 on the passenger side of my truck that works well. We had been looking at the Nextfit as the replacement for the Keyfit, although that would be mounted in the wife's JGC. It looks like I wouldn't be able to transplant that into my truck. I've read good things on here about the Diono Radian RXT for our trucks, as they are much more compact.

I think when the next kid(s) come for me, it'll be time for a bigger garage so I can fit a full size tundra in

I've got the garage space, but I think I'd get out of the pickup truck game before I'd go full size. They are just too big for my tastes. The wife got an F-150 as a rental and I took it for a spin. It would work great for kids, but they are huge and way too much $$$ for what I'd want. A T4R would probably make more sense at that point for my uses.

I still need some kind of truck around the house for hauling crap that I wouldn't want to put inside another vehicle.

Oh, me too. I use my truck as a truck, but full size is a non-starter for me. I'll just go with smaller car seats.

That Chico seat is huge. I had a Graco convertible in my AC for a short drive with a friend. The one thing that I did was to be sure the seat base was rotated to full upright. It looks like that would be Setting 8 on your seat. That gave my friend's daughter some leg room and the passenger seat was probably in the middle of its travel for my friend.

Depending on size and age, that may not be the greatest solution, but not cramping the driver has its safety benefits also.

Not sure if your seat's manual says this, but mine advises that the safest place to put the baby seat is in the middle rear seat, away from the glass, doors etc. This configuration will make it a bit cramped for the other adjacent rear passengers, but my son's safety is worth it.

Recaro car seat for my 6 year old. Fits fine for her. On passenger side I have a rear facing baby seat can't remember brand right now for my 7 month old. I'm 5'7" and my wife is about 5'5" and we all fit fine. Mostly just for short trips, long trips wife's MDX. Double cab fits me fine.

We are having baby end of March. We just got our second base for the rear facing 35 pound car seat. How do I install a rear facing infant seat in this truck?
