New headlights have arrived

I have a pair of these and I could not fit LEDs into the housing. The socket could not fit the larger diameter bulb. In addition, the cap on the back too tight to accommodate any LED that has a fan on the back.

You will have to go HIDs, drill a hole in the cap to run the wires and use a rubber grommet to keep out moisture. They recommend HIDs over LEDs due to the projector style housing, which will have a significantly brighter spot and throw over LEDs. I'll post some pictures soon with my HIDs.

 

Thank you. Can't wait to see it. I plan to install the hid's into the housings today and i'm fine with a grommet and small hole in the cap since there is already one in there.

 

Take some photos of the housings after you install them so we can see how it turned out!

 

I plan to take a lot of pics lol. Took pics of oem drl's today and the hid's in the oem housings to compare

 

I wish someone would guinea pig the 2nd gen versions of these for me.

What would be a good bulb for these? I've got Silver Star Ultras now but I don't believe that's right for these.

Well order 'em up and let me know! I'm mostly curious if that bar lights up with the DRL and if they come with bulbs. I suppose I could email Tacomabeast but that sounds like actual work.

We'll see if they require the wire splicing mentioned above.

 

If you do not have a factory LED DRL, there will be splicing involved. This is the email I got from oemassive when I asked them why the SR model that I ordered is the same as the TRD model

 

Well, looks like I will be splicing them haha! Wonder why they have different part numbers for the SR5 saying they won't fit the TRDs... Interesting.

 

Have you done a write up, photos, or know of one so I can make sure I do it right?

 

After playing with them, I can confirm hid's will fit, but yes you will have to enlarge the hole in the cover to get the connectors through. If you could find a shallow enough led bulb then it possibly could fit.

 

I will take photos of the splices that I did so you know which colors go to which, as well as a photo of the wire tap that I did to add a new wire to the fifth plug which we do not have. Will do it later today!

 

Looks pretty clean! Where did you get the grommets for the larger hole from?

 

I have not installed my HID kit yet, but the kit I bought has grommets already on the wires.
