I'm on the market for 285/70/17 tires and new wheels. If there's a combo out there that will not rub on my cabin mount please let me know. Personal experience or usable links are appreciated. I'm okay with plastic trim. Currently running 2.25 lift - 5100/OME 887 with AAL. Sport stock wheels with 265/70/17 and 1.5" spidertrax spacers.

Not that I know of. Every taco owner I've met with 285s has done CMC (different wheel/tire combos).

Granted every one of them goes off roading/wheeling which makes CMC essential.

Do you plan on going off road with your truck? Also, what's the reason why you're against getting CMC done?

Mall crawling will be fine with 285's.
If you plan to use a truck like a truck.. just make the cut.
    Hey that rhymes :)

Funny, I have 285/75/16’s on stock suspension and am no where close to rubbing the cab mount. Wheel’d it plenty hard and have other members who can attest that it in fact clears just fine.

Don’t believe everything you see on TW, the CMC gospel is more groupthink than anything.

Offset and wheel width plays a big role too

Isn't that what my thread is about? To find a wheel with specs ( width, offset, backspace) that will minimize rubbing on the frame

I'm not against it. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way around it

Rather than tailor your wheels/tires to avoid a CMC, just figure out exactly what you want and get the CMC. It’s so damn easy. You can even buy yourself an angle grinder, and cut it yourself and then get the new plates welded on eventually (a lot of people don’t even get the plates welded back on)

I’m sitting on a 3” inch lift running 285/70-17 using the TRD pro 4Runner rims and no rub at all

I had a similar lift. I ran 285’s with 4.5” bs wheels. I had no cmc. Even off road my tires didn’t rub.

But here at tw no one will believe that.

Light off roading? Get the correct backspacing. Put on the 285s. Get an alignment with as much caster as you can. Enjoy no rubbing.

0 offset wheels will help and switching UCAs to increase caster will also help.

If you currently have 1/2" of clearance to give up on the suspension side, and about 3/4" of clearance to give up on the cab mount; 17"x8" et-0 should work.

I didn't know that you can fit 285s on 7 inch wide rim. You had no problem with that?

I think I need to just go ahead with Methods or FNs and see what happens. They are both 0 offset wheels. I think Ray10s have too much offset for this matter.

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/
    Methods 4.75” backspacing
    Falken All terrains
    285’s
    Ome lift
    LR SPA adjustable ucas
    No cmc
    No rubbing

Will I get a CMC? Maybe just for the fact I can either go up to 35’s, or no worrying when i flex out off road. BAMF makes a cmc plate cant even tell you got one done. But running them now for a while without a single rub.
