Today I was at my local tire shop, I try to do all my business with them and they always take great care of us. I got some prices on some new tires for my 07 Tacoma. The prices below are installed and include lifetime free rotations.

All tires are priced in a 265/70/17

    Nitto Terra Grappler: $700 (41 lbs) (13/32)
    Michelin Defender LTX: $947 (39 lbs) (12/32)
    Bridgestone Revo2 (4 ply): $842 (41 lbs) (12/32)
    Bridgestone Revo2 (10 ply):$979 (46 lbs) (15/32)
    Firestone Destination: $798

I don't do very many highway miles, I'm offroad a lot, but don't need anything super aggressive. I want a good all terrain that will last pretty good and be minimally noisy, but I don't mind a little noise.

The Revo2 10 ply was recommended by the shops owner, is anybody running a Load range E tire? I do tow and haul pretty frequently, so these may be the way to go if the ride isn't too harsh. Feedback is appreciated.

What other tires should I look at?
(I forgot to get them to price the Hankook Dynapro ATM)

Post pics of your tires on the 5 spoke sport wheels if you've got em.

I've only had load range E tires on my truck for the past 2 sets, both KO2s, and I won't ever do anything but E load in the future.

For everyday street use, they are way overkill on my little 1st gen Tacoma, but off-road they are indestructible. I've put both sets through hell and back (hundreds of hard offroad miles) and never once had a flat or puncture. I've been around many other guys running C or P rated all-terrains on the same trails and had to help change out flats on the trail because they got a puncture or tear.

On the street though, you can definitely tell they're E rated...they're loud, heavy and stiff. I wouldn't run E load tires if I only used my truck on the street, unless I frequently carried or pulled a lot of weight.

265/70R 16 Load Range E KO2s. Some gravel roads, mostly highway sometimes loaded with firewood and the like, and I love them.

I run E load tires, couldn't be happier with them. They're heavy and very tough, for me the weight is well worth having a tire less likely to flat on a trail.

Personally I run Toyo RT tires and they've served me very well. Not available i your size unfortunately.

I would recommend these tires. All of these are available 265/70-17 in a 10 ply E load:
    Cooper ST MAXX
    Falken Wildpeak AT3W
    Nitto Terra Grappler G2
Nitto Ridge Grappler (also available in load range C to save some weight, stronger than a normal P/SL tire but not quite as strong as a load E)

Of this bunch I'd think the AT3W would be the most well suited to your use, quiet, long lasting, great on and off road traction.

I asked about the KO2, they said they were a great tire, but they (the tire shop owners) said they are seeing them wear quickly and couldn't recommend them for what they cost.
We used to run those on the superduty farm trucks. We were getting about 40-45k on them. Good tires, a little pricey if you don't catch them on sale. They run rebates on them sometimes though.

I'll look into the tires listed above. I do a lot of short trips and tow/haul quite a bit so I already don't get good mpg. I'd rather have a heavier tire that is a little more robust than gain an mpg or 2 an have a weaker tire.
They have the Revo2 in stock and I looked at it, I really like the looks of them and from what I've read people on here that have them are pleased with them. The load range E also has 3/32 more tread depth than the 4 ply model.

From what I have been reading here on the TW, people seem to be getting good mileage out of the KO2. They certainly can be expensive.

actually, if i still had my tweaked out VW R32 with 20k in suspension mods and good power and lowered, i would put ST Maxx tires on it. and yeah I'm a weirdo AND I'm being serious!

If you are off road a lot and do a lot of towing, stay away from 4 ply tires or you’ll be fixing flats a lot. I ended up with Cooper AT3's in 4 ply cause I didn’t ask the right questions when I bought them. After 20k miles, (about 80% on logging roads) and numerous flat tires, I ordered some Cooper ST Maxx. They only come in 10 ply or E load rating. I worked on these roads for 31 years and we ran 4 ply tires and fixed a ton of flats. It took years of complaining before management decided it would be cheaper to fork out the dough for the 10 ply tires vs paying to get flats fixed while paying employees to take the rigs in to get the flats fixed. Take a look at the thread I created recently.

I would love to be able to add that tire to my list. Not really wanting to spend another $600 - $800 on new wheels to get that tire. I think I'll stick to my 16" for now.
