My headlights just dont seem bright, the bulbs are going on 5 yrs old now and my eyes dont see as good as they use to. Would new oem bulbs be worth the investment since mine might have lost some of there brightness or do i need to go another route, my main problem is in real dark areas where there is no street lights and wore out divider lines on the highway.

Are your headlight lenses hazed over blocking a lot of the light output?

You can get some brighter headlights. I think the design of the stock headlight housings kind of suck for getting a good beam area.

Use your driver's lights at night. It helps get more side light.

My headlight housings are crystal clear, and you are right about running the fog lights for more light, i can actually see the road edges that way but figure they might be to much for on comming traffic as i dont want to blind people

Look for post 'ultimate headlight upgrade by @crashnburn80

    Do that and enjoy.

Sidenote, are you dealing with cataracts? Huge improvement to get them gone if so

The brighter bulbs will give better output but be prepared to buy them more often. I was running them but was only getting a year or so before having to buy again. I went back to the OEM Osram bulbs. I don’t think your fog lights are going to blind anyone.

I just replaced the Sylvania Ultras yesterday after 5 years , both bulbs burnt out within a day of each other. I went with the Osram Nightbreakers @ Xenon Depot

Headlight bulbs dim over time. 5yr old bulbs would be pretty dim. Just going with a quality non-coated bulb replacement would be a big improvement.

Here is what @Clearwater Bill was referring to:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-h4-headlight-upgrade-not-led-or-hid.398066/

Excellent choice for stock wattage performance. Philips Xtreme is another good one, the latest highest performing versions of each are the +130s.

Fogs have clean cut low offs, they shouldn’t blind or even annoy any oncoming drivers. If you are getting flashed when running your fogs something is not right in your setup. If you’ve put LEDs in your fogs that would certainly blind people.

Side note from the side note. I was reading an interesting SAE paper the other day discussing how the lighting changes to short wave length sources is causing significant night time visability issues for those with certain vision deficiencies, one of which is cataracts. And it isn’t just headlights, but also the new high intensity LED street lights can be problematic on wet road surfaces due to refraction.
