I won't even bother with the toyota care, not worth it. Unfortunately I really don't trust anyone to touch my truck. 3 years of free oil changed wasted i guess lol.

Yea, it's a joke. I only do it for the free oil and filter. I buy my own in cabin and air filter and windshield wiper blades. Save like 50%.

I've been buying oil and filter from the dealer but I don't use their free services, just don't trust them. I did my first oil change at 2K miles, 2nd at 5K miles, am now at about 8100 miles so it will be done again at 10K miles. At that point, I will switch to Mobil 1 oil and just do it myself every 5K miles for the life of the truck. I know it's overkill but it's cheap peace of mind for me. I also swapped out the plastic oil filter housing for a metal one.

I've heard nothing but good things about Amsoil. You believe in them over Mobil 1? Where are you buying Amsoil from? Honestly I usually buy my Mobil 1 from Walfart since they have better prices than anyone else. I don't think they sell Amsoil though.

I have a friend who has an account, I get it from him. about 11 12 yrs ago, I ordered oil-n-filter from them, they sent me the wrong oil filter (it fit, it was a little longer than usual) after about 3k miles, the engine locked up. Come to find out, the oil filter was making contact with curb stops-n-such (it was my 17 yr old sons car),and it was slowly leaking out. well a few phone calls and after sending them the filter, they paid for an engine replacement,100% pts & labor, no questions asked. cant ask for more than that.

I believe AMSOIL is sold by their dealers and from their website.

Honestly, I think I’d save the $$ and go Mobil 1. I just like AMSOIL, so I use it.

Are you talking about the spin on oil filter? It has a plastic housing?

Based on my oil change woes alone I can tell you Toyota care is not worth it. How hard is it to thread a bolt in a hole to attach a skid plate? Like really. I'll finish out my toyota care but it will be amsoil every 5k for me after that. I've been paying Toyota to do 5k mile oil changes. I don't like the idea of 10k.

Unskilled ,most mechanics won’t pull a ticket just for a oil change service they want the ones that pay multiple hours and do it in half the time.

You don't have a spin on oil filter. The 2016+ with the 3.5 uses a cartridge. The housing is metal, the cap is plastic. The prius uses the same housing but comes with a metal cap rather than plastic. The same housing is also used on the 4.0 but not sure what year that started. My 2016 4R had the plastic cap like the Tacoma so I swapped it with a prius cap.

My new F150 has a plastic pan, plastic housing, cartridge filter and the pan plug literally is a twist off. No tools required at all. It ia really weird.

Toyota requires a special oil filter wrench to remove the cap. Here's the metal cap to replace the original plastic cap on the 3.5 and 4.0 that use the cartridge style filter. Inside this cap is a metal cone that the oil filter seats on. The cone that was in my original plastic cap was a little longer than the cone that came in this cap. They both just pop out and swap right over between the 2 caps.

Maybe techs would genuinely care if the pay system wasn’t the same as it has been for years and years while cost of living continues to rise. Let’s not forget the costs of quality tools to remian competitive in the trade, etc...

A fact that always seemed to fly way over the heads of the big wigs.

I remember how cut throat it was and the guys still in who are making it big always have my respect.

No one is gonna care more about your investment than yourself, so at least turn your own wrench for the super easy jobs!

Very poor excuse IMO If you apply for a job, you know what you're going to be paid in advance. If you don't like it, move on and find another job. If you accept the position, you accept the pay. Do your job and do it right, period. Being paid less than you're worth is a poor excuse for doing crap work.

From what I’ve seen, majority of them come in young while believing there is a great living to be made. They see how it really is, they grow up, - and like you say - they move on. It all ends up being a high turnover rate.

Poor excuses or not, none of this addresses the whole issue.

On the flip side, (once again from a personal view point) I got to see techs get paid very well, no matter what the assignment.

Do you wanna take a guess on the quality of work there?

I don’t know why people make this into a science.
