    If I had sheetrock, that would be a viable option for sure.

    2 layers of some kind of plaster board (3/8" each I think) & then a skim coat. Really nice walls & smooth. House built in mid 60's.

    Returning them to how they should be.

    I even go so far as mixing plaster to fill the nail holes and touch up areas. Regular spackle/joint compound doesn't dry and sand to the same texture/hardness and is noticable when painted.
