    In the vain of what we have we learned today...

    Today we learned that Cooper ST Maxxes in the 255/85r16 size are shorter than Cooper STT Pros in the 285/75r16 size.

    I had the pleasure of meeting up with my buddy Dan, @turbodb for lunch today at Tat's Deli in downtown Seattle (great east coast authentic cheesesheatk) and took this opportunity to do a totally unsientific measurement of the tires mounted on my truck and compared them to the tires mounted on his.

    With the weight of the truck on the tires, the STT Pros were a 1/4" taller than the the ST Maxxes on his truck. I think we were both a bit surprised by this.

    Intrigued by this, I did a quick "lookup" of these on tiresize.com.

    At least there (and I don't know if this is based on mfg data or on real-world testing), they list:
    • Discoverer ST MAXX 255/85R16 - diameter 32.8"
    • Discoverer STT PRO 285/75R16 - diameter 33"
    So, while each were shorter than what is listed, the "ratios" were about right.

    We also found out that both stuck out about the same distance (within 1/8") from the center-line of the truck, at least as measured from the leaf springs.

    We both have 16x8 SCS wheels. His 255/85r16 smeasured 32.0" tall and my 285/75r16s measured 32.25" tall.

    Mine are easy to reach being a four cyl but I have a feeling the lack of give in the new mounts will make them harder to reattach.

    Yeah i couldn't get them to line up to save my life. The motor wouldn't go high enough it seemed. Still not sure how i got them in. I got frustrated 3 times on 3 different days and gave up.

    My plan was to pull up the motor a lot (lots of room with the 4cyl) put the one huge bolt through really loose, set it back down and then small bolts nice and tight and then tighten the big bolt. Seems like the only way any of the crap would ever line up.

    yeah if you can get your hands in there like that. I couldn't really. I had to loosen the mount and then try and set the motor on the loose mounts as it came down. Total bitch. Plus they were higher up by about 1''.
