    Honestly, the carfax means jack.

Also, where has the Tacoma lived its life? In a salty area ( where roads are salted or near the beach?). If so, I’d be concerns about frame rust.

For comparison sake, my 2010 truck is the same model as that one. Mine is a double cab long bed with 58k miles and I was offered $23k for trade in last September by my dealership.

It's in Texas so none of that. This one is the v6 and also double cab. My concern is buying it and having to pour money into right away. When does a tacoma start needing parts?

There's no telling what you're getting when you buy used. They may say it looks great and runs strong when there could be an issue . I bought my 2008 from a Ford Dealer with 94k on it 2 years ago . Shortly after I bought it I ended up getting a new transmission from Toyota covered by extended warranty. I have 117k on it and other than that and minor schedule maintenance I haven't had any needed repairs

9 year old 2 wheel drive with almost 140K miles on it for 15K? Fuck all that. If you're going to spend that much money, spend some more and buy new or at least something made in the last couple years.

Honestly, with a used vehicle you never know what you’re gonna get.

At 9 years old you’ll definately will need to be replacing fluids and such. Brakes, filters, spark plugs, etc, etc.

Don’t let it scare you though, but it really all depends on how the previous owner took care of the truck, which in this case is a big unknown.

It might be worth having a Toyota dealer check it over and run a compression check. Also, check transmission and look at all vin stickers and paint to see if been wrecked.

I would look for newer if u can but my 03 gen 1 with 150k was better than some10yrs newer. So check it over good and pay 150.00 to have a dealer find problems.

Maintenance records are what's really important IMO. If I so much as spray a hinge w/ lithium grease I log it in my carfax app. Whoever gets my truck, regardless of mileage will know damn well this thing has been taken care of. Without logs/records it's a guess on what'll happen next.

Carfax helps a lot at times. On mine it showed every single oil change since new.

    How many fewer miles?

I traded my 09 AC 4 wheel drive 4 cylinder 5 speed manual with 58k miles back about 15 months ago for 13.5k

How long that truck is going to last is going to depend on how well it was cared for before it got to you.

Does the previous owner have any evidence of all the servicing it has had?

What I would do with the truck when I got it:
    engine air filter
    cabin air filter
    oil change
    rear differential oil change
    spark plug change**
Transmission flush (I would have this done at a shop)
    Flush radiator
    flush brake fluid
flush power steering fluid - unless it looks very clean

** be very careful with the spark plug change. If you get in there and think they are the original plugs and aren't experienced with removing plugs, it might be worth having a shop do the change to prevent anything from breaking off.

I have no hesitations to believe my Tacoma will make it 400K miles before any serious major repair provided it's cared for well.

Older used cars can be a pain because you need to do a lot of upfront work to make sure everything has been serviced properly and is from this moment forward. Provided the previous owner wasn't a complete nincompoop the truck should last just fine.
