Same here, I go through about 5-6 cord mostly standing dead ash or wind blown hardwood. Never did a moisture test on any of it...just know it’s fairly light. I have been mixing in framing scraps( working on a decent size framing job) Is there any good use for creosote other than killing weeds?

Lol....I know. My main problem is lack of time, between my kids after school sports and activities and other projects. I feel once I build a wood shed I could stay a season ahead...eventually.

    I use seasoned wood only.
Only hardwoods like oak, maple, locust, ash, and some fruit trees mixed in.
But, I do have to clean the pipes more than once a year.
I measured the moisture in the pile I have at between 9 & 11 (percent?).

I cover it always. Exception, I have some maple that is not covered, but in the sun.
    Oh, western North Carolina humidity.

Sounds like maybe your stove is spending too much time dampered way back? Below 20% I think is considered 'seasoned' so that's the first reason for excess soot/creosote that comes to mind. Not enough O2.

Excuse the picture. Hard to tell what's happening with the sun. But you get the gist. With very few exceptions that thing splits whatever we are brave enough to put into it.

Essentially the VW engine drives the hydraulic pump, seems pretty simple?

Bingo. Big cylinder on the ram, and smaller one for the lift arm.

One more notch in the pro side of a decision to get a welded steel/soapstone stove.
I hope to never have to crawl inside the stove to redo the goop to seal the joints.
I obviously did a poor job in the fall ( :crapstorm: ) because we lost a lot of the 'air-tight' qualities. A warm day, I shut the stove off, cooled it, and re-did the goop.

That Ideal Hybrid is looking better.

Oh HELL yeah. Looks like the forefather of the splitter I rented to split my giagantic, dead oak.
