Steel wheels for my 2017 TRD Sport

So I wanted to put a set of steel wheels on my Tacoma...


The first set I bought were 17's from an FJ, but the seller cancelled the order (apparently they weren't actually in stock...).

The second set I ordered managed to come in. They were also from an FJ, but they were 16's. I assumed they would fit so I cleaned them up, painted them, brought them to the local tire installer this morning and it turns out...that they don't fit (they hit the caliper).

After three trips to three different Toyota dealers I got the following opinions:
- 1st one said none of the 18-hole "Nato" style rims will fit.
- 2nd one said order #42601-AD030 (for a 16x7 TRD Offroad), but said they couldn't offer any discount and actually referred me to another local that did (very cool of him...)
- 3rd dealer (who offers discounts) said they may fit, but no guarantees.


So before I end up with 8-wheels that don't fit - can anyone confirm the part number above will fit my 2017 Sport?

 

The Spare Wheel is Steel, so I suppose you can use 4 Spares if you are Hell bent on running Steel Wheels.

 

I would, but the 2017 Sport has a different wheel and I really want the wheels shown above.

 

These are 2nd gen Steelies, they fit perfectly.
I'll look for the part number if you still need it.

Mike, those steels would look so nice color matched like your bumper is with your truck! Or maybe black, but I don’t think the white works since you don’t have it anywhere else. That would be sweet!

 

I painted them the white Toyota uses on the FJ Cruiser roof.

It’s one of those things I probably have to see in person- I do dig the steels, you may be right though- your bumper and the white wheels look like an FJ. It’s definately classic that way. Glad you didn’t go with the chrome hubcaps and whitewalls for contrast!

Just kidding... you know, the more I look at those, I honestly like it’s contrast in white on yours after zooming in. Do the pressure sensors work in them? Please post the part number if it’s convenient- thanks!

 

I've got a set of chrome wheels with chrome baby moons on one of the Defenders, really sets it off.

Make sure that you check the picture in the (catalog) diagram that matches the part # online.
Check for the hole pattern and count if you are looking for that specific "18 hole" rim.

This is because the hole pattern for 2nd gen spare (steelie in sport) has a totally different pattern.

 

I did just that. I collected 5 steel spares from 2nd and 3rd Gen. Tacomas, got them powder coated in gloss black and then puts 255/85-16 Maxx ST's on them. The front hit the caliper so I put spidertrax wheel spacers on and everything worked well.

 

Those are actually quite awesome! Looking good!

17 FJ Steelies 42611-35330 Backspacing is 4.5 rather than the trd 5.5 so the sit out more. All the holes are round - not the elongated one at the valve like the spare.


And white!

42601-AD030 is the wheel number, I bought them new online for $95 each. I had to buy TPMS for a steel Taco wheel also online, they came from Lagrange Toyota. I paid about $140 for the four.

I never thought big wheels could do that! And I just have 16’s.

Typically, snow tire packages from tire shops have steelie options. Might check that out.

I do like the looks of the steelies, although I don’t know if it meshes well with the sport trim. With something like SR, I think it would go better.

 

I thought that as well, but I asked three local tire installers and none of them had anything that looked good nor were they interested in sourcing OEM rims. So I started looking myself.

 

The first one came in today so I had the dealer pull the stock wheel and check fit - looks like I'm good to go!

With a little luck I should have them painted and mounted by Saturday.
