What the heck are you using a 30A fuse on the rock lights for?

 

I used the in-line fuse (from relay to positive terminal of battery) that came in the supplied harness. I don’t recall the fuse size. The OP had links to all supplies that I used.

 

Oh well your diagram had it as 30A and those lights draw like 3A

 

Ah yeah I think I put that just because that’s what the harness comes with. Definitely overkill and you can definitely use a smaller one if you’re not using the prebuilt harnesses!

 

I wired my Rigid Ignites into the reverse light wiring which I installed into the tubes on my SnugTop XTR. I also installed a Rigid SRM backup light kit in the bumper.

I moved the turn signal to the reverse light socket and now have the full "C" as tail and brake lights.

The Rigid Ignites come on when in reverse and the switch in the cab turns all four on. You will need to install a diode to keep from back feeding. Some get weirded out when folks start talking about diodes, but they are very easy to install. I used solder seal connectors for the wiring and posi-tap connectors to tap into existing wires.

 

Looks great! Do you happen to have more info on what diodes you used and how you wired them in for the less electrically-inclined folks like myself? Right now I just have them come on via a switch in the cab.

 

I'm assuming you want the Rigid lights to come on when you put it in reverse and when you hit the switch. But don't want the factory reverse lights to come on when you press the switch.

I use Schottky Diodes, they are very fast clamping and have a very small forward voltage drop. These are 10 amp which are more than enough for backup lights.

Current through a diode can only flow from the anode to the cathode, which explains why it’s important for a diode to be connected in the correct direction. Physically, every diode should have some sort of indication for current flow. Usually the diode will have a line near the cathode pin, which matches the vertical line in the diode circuit symbol. So just put the gray circle on the side you want blocked.

Make up wires long enough to reach from the reverse light positive wire to the positive wire of the Rigid lights and install the diode in them. I did both sides because I wanted to do the wiring behind the tail lights (easy to get to). I use solder seal connectors for my wiring. Easy to use and makes a very solid connection. Then I put 3:1 marine dual wall, adhesive lined, heat shrink tubing over all of it. That's overkill but I don't want any moisture getting to the connections.

Once you have the wire with diodes tap into the positive wire of the reverse lights and run it to the positive wire of the Rigid lights. (Remember or mark which way current is flowing). I use posi-tap connectors for the taps. They are easy to use and make a very solid connection. You can also reuse them.

Doing this will make your Rigid lights come on with your reverse lights but prevent any current flowing back to your factory reverse lights and ecu when you hit the switch.

It's really easy to do, just take your time and you will be fine.

Liking these Rigid Ignites. If only wired into oem reverse lights with no switch whatsoever diodes are unnecessary right? I have enough swithched aux lighting. That's why I'm interested in the most basic use for these little gems.
Also any reason for using the diffused over flood for max reverse lighting in darkest areas. Easier on the eyes?

No, I don’t think you’d heed a diode or even a relay. These pull so little you could simply splice into the pos/neg of the tail lights similar to a shell third brake light. Much, much simpler install with very little wiring!

Diffused are sold as a set for reverse lights, versus buying individually, so you can get them a lot cheaper than the individual floods or spots. They are plenty bright. If you use them with your reverse lights, they aren’t as intense or shoot light as far as the other options which is nice so you don’t blind other drivers (parking lots etc)

 

That's correct, you can wire the Ignites into the reverse lights with no problems. They draw very little current. That's the way I had mine wired for a couple months before I added the SRM's and they worked fine. I used the diodes so all of them didn't come on when in reverse.

I like the diffused over flood for backup lights. Even though the floods are a wide beam pattern they still leave dark areas in the camera. The diffused light up everything.

This is of great interest to me. I'd really like to increase light output when in reverse.

It'd be cool to see how it looks through your reverse-camera, too. Hopefully the image is enhanced a great deal, too.

 

I'll try to get some pictures of the backup camera screen tonight. It makes a huge difference. After putting the shell on I found the oem reverse lights to be almost useless. It helped when I replaced the oem reverse bulbs with leds.

But when I added the Rigid Ignites to the camper shell it made a huge difference. Part of that is the lights being mounted high on top of the shell, the Ignites with the diffused lens lights up everything.

Then I moved the turn signals to the reverse lights and didn't know if that would make a difference not having the oem reverse lights any longer. I was happy to see not having the oem reverse lights made very little noticeable difference.

When I turn on the Rigid SRM lights in the bumpers it's almost too much light if objects are very close.
