I guess there's no remedy. I should just go ahead and see what happens. If it rubs I will get UCAs and play with caster if it still rubs then go under knife.

So 16" wheels won't clear my 17" rotors? Or rotors are the same on our trucks?

They're the same. You can go 16 or 17. The point is make sure the tire you want comes in the rim size you want.

What caster setting are your LR UCA's at?

UCA's are your friend! I am looking into this as I am installing an Icon stage 3 with LR UCA's instead of icon. from what i hear max out the caster from the lower Control arm and leave the upper at the 2* OF CASTER SETTING to push the wheel forward. I am only on 265/70/17 but plan to go 255/80/17 so I want to get as much clearance as possible.

I know two people that have said the same . They wheel and didn't chop.

But they're both running own wheel and own uca I believe.

Once you change offset and UCA it gets hard. I know for sure I have to cut because my 265 70 17 is already close.

For OP try and get an alignment with caster set as far forward as possible. Best chance at not needing it. It's a hit or miss really.

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/
2 its the recommended setting with them per their instructions. But i had no rub before the UCA’s i put them on a month into the lift/tires. I think its the wheel that gives me the space. Going out again tomorrow so Ill test it once again on rub but so far zero. if i start to rub as i progress in my experience levels off road ill do the CMC with BAMF plates and call it a day.

It's a safety feature. Supposed to stop the wheel from hitting you in a 1/4 overlap crash.
Putting a new plate on it probably reinforced it though after you cut .

    DCSB... No mods here
What I’m saying is Toyota could have resolved the 285 tire issue by keeping the same safety feature but just moving it back 1/4 to a 1/2 inch.

I see trucks at my local dealer that have the CMC done and are being sold with big tires and a lift.

Weird how they never weld a plate back in there though.

I'm reading all I can find on this subject all. What is cmc? I've got 35" nitto graplers on 20" rims on mine. Be gentle, I bought it this way. I'll probably go 33" when they wear out. Anyone have pictures of surgery? My slight trim job isn't cutting it. Thsnks
