Not to burst your bubble but 89, 91, 93, 104 octane should show no difference in mpg. The ECUs are tuned for 89 octane and the only way for them to benefit from higher octane is to have them reprogrammed. That's the pros and cons of computer controlled systems.

Similar to what most have said in the cold I'm getting 14-15 mpg per tank normal driving 60% hwy / 40% city. In the summer months same driving I'm at about 16.5-17.5 or if I'm all highway 17-18 mpg per tank.

After you turn off the engine, before you open your car door wait a few seconds and this shows on your display.

Bone stock I was averaging 18-20mpg no problem. Now with bed rack, rtt, Rotopax trusty Cooper STT Pro's and can't forget the shovel I'm lucky to average 16.

I forgot one thing, it is possible on some tires the last time I checked, to find their rolling resistance. Consider that in the mix, but I know many like my younger friend just want a truck set up to their liking. Heavy duty bumpers, taller tires, slight lift etc.

Great evaluation imo, with the Taco it is possible to get over 20 mpg if gingerly, my old F150 with V8 never ever got better than 17 on hwy. Short city driving, you talking about 12 mpg numbers.

These threads have very little value. A bunch of random posts that regurgitate the same information as every other "mpg" thread. Not tryiing to discount all the info, as some posts do have more value than others...but it's not rocket science.

Bottom line, these trucks are not the most fuel efficient vehicles. Based on the info from this and every other mpg thread... Your mpg can be acceptable but obviously the results vary significantly. What I do know is, no one here is driving a "special" 3rd gen that gets better mpg.

The mpg has "x" number of variables. Most significant variables being driving conditions and the driving characteristics of the driver. To get better mpg? That's not rocket science either....gotta make sacrifices. I personally choose to maintain my normal driving habits and sacrifice mpgs.

New wheels tires, gears...etc...those are other varibles but I'm comparing apples to apples here.

    To get better mpg:

    A. Drive like a senior citizen
    B. Stay off the highway or drive between 40-60 mpg
    C. Avoid inconsistent terrain...ie hills.
    D. Use your brakes only when absolutely necessary and use your momentum as efficiently as possible...ie newton.
    E. Increase tire pressure.
    F. Almost forgot....Drive like a senior citizen.

I hope I helped summarize the many pages of mpg doldrums on this forum.

It automatically goes there by itself when i turn off the truck, since day 1. Try looking in settings

Prolly still has winter air in the tires...its heavier and requires more torque in the summer for your tires to turn therefore usin more gas. I always switch air in the spring to avoid this.

Longer trips will equal better MPG with the truck. Short trips kill mileage.

Seriously, everyone should check their tire pressure especially if you live in a cold climate.

I couldn’t believe how low mine were a couple weeks back after that month long cold snap when I checked.

I added +2 PSI from recommended to help alleviate any future loss due to cold.

——- I had 6 tanks in the low 14’s and this was pissing me off so I finally decided to check the tires...

Stock OR DC SB I Get 17-18 hwy but when i drive in the city i get about 19-20 LOL... Granted my truck only has less than 400 on the ODO right now maybe it can change? I also go about 70-75 on the Highway Throttle here and there to keep the speed up. This ECT Power thing seems like a good idea to get a bit better MPG I might try it next. My old car use to get 23-24 highway which is not that much more but the Taco gives me a much smoother ride, No thoughts on switching just yet.

So what are you all getting for mileage per tank?

My gas light was on this morning with a total of 305 miles driven. Average tank mpg was 17.8mpg if I recall correctly. This is in Michigan and a mixture of city/hwy driving, temperatures have been in the single digits and also in the 40's during this tank (Michigan can't make up her mind). This also includes some 2WD driving and 4WD driving in the snow.

I was getting 22mpg in my 2016 4cyl 2wd Access Cab. Unfortunately, I needed a double cab so had to trade it in for a 6cyl. Would have stuck with the 4cyl double cab 2wd if offered in Canada.
