I made my own using some open source references, a clean modified version of Java code for romraider. Editor is done, logger nearly there, then definitions

I hear you on the size of the Tacoma community, it surprised me as well. That said, the last us 2.7 people heard via this thread was that a tune was in the works/on your to-do list, but it sounds like that has changed now. Previously the word was 2.7 would come after the 3.5 MT tunes.

3.5 owners are the majority of people who are looking for a tune anyways, so it's a no brainer to cater to that market.

How much of the 3.5 tune do you think would carry over on the 2.7? I remember you posted at length about the complexity of the tables, and if I remember right you even replied to me specifically when I asked if the 2.7's were on a similar level of map complexity.

Truth be told I think a lot of people would find their trucks infinitely more enjoyable even if the ONLY change was removing the throttle input damping- 2.7's don't have gobs of power to start with so playing nanny games with the throttle is just plain silly.

Unfortunately I don't really have the connections or capital (or experience) to pick up any slack on my end to speed it along but I hope this will see the light of day at some point...

Nice I'm somewhat familiar with RomRaider from my BRZ days.

It depends on the year of the 2.7. Older the ecu the less complex. Newest stuff like 2016+ is approaching towards 3.5 complexity but not as much, since it still uses a bit older processor which relies on older logic. Any of the new Toyota with the D76F ecus ( Tacoma, is200T, 18 tundra, etc etc) all run the new, crazy complex logic

I was under this assumption as well but its pretty obvious that the 2.7 market isn't very large compared to the 3.5 one.

I also agree, if the throttle mapping was revised, it would make a huge difference. I wonder if the shop by me would take on trying to squeeze out some power from my 4 banger..

Is there a way to verify ECU type with something like a standard OBD2 reader running torque or something? Like a "version info" sort of thing?

I have a 2016 2.7, I know it is the first 2.7 in the Tacoma to have dual VVT-i and then also (duh) the first 3rd gen 2.7L.

I'm also curious about the ECU type for the 2.7L

Ecu type is similar to the new twin vvt 4runner. It's the newest version of the old series ( if that makes sense ).

    Fully flashable

haha, that's more a factor of the exhaust design than anything. Contrary to what most people think "pops" on overrun are generally not fuel exploding in the exhaust, but noises caused by temperature and pressure differentials equalizing.

Of course, you can get a "pop" and a flame from dumping fuel, but that's also the sound of horrible MPG and destroying your cats.

Yeah, if we could go ahead and get just a linear throttle map, that would be great... thanks.

I think I remember your first name from the forum. mazda3forums.com was the site.
You were the one that wasn't screwing everyone left n right. My bad man!

You should tell us who the other person/company was on there that was taking money and not delivering product so the Taco world can shy away.

don't know if this thread is active but im also interested in better throttle response. I figure I wouldn't have the same problem as the automatic guys when I bought the truck in manual but it seem that this is not the case.

Yup. A 1:1 throttle map is all I ask... Personally, I could care less about adding power; I'd just like some good old fashioned cable-style response...

It can't be that hard, can it?

Somebody do it already and take my money.

They sell the pedal commander and similar products that adjust the signal sent to the fbw throttle but it gets mixed reviews and is expensive for a what it is. I would like to see something I could get a little functionality out of. But I totally agree with you on the poor throttle response. It make it difficulty to drive with a smaller engine and manual transmission.

The pedal commanders are basically just signal amplifiers, and are band-aids that the ECU actively makes an attempt to learn around. Throttle by wire pedals are actually quite simple electronics, but they can be a bit variable from one pedal to another, so the ECU continually learns the signal profile of its particular pedal. When you apply a pedal commander the ECU simply tries to adapt, and at best you will just have a "dead zone" from "mostly pressed" on to "to the floor" because you are just using a device that is telling the computer you've pressed the pedal more than you have- worst case the ECU completely adapts the the signal profile and you have spent money on something that is having absolutely no effect...

The only way to truly get a "linear throttle" map is to alter the ECU's throttle tables such that sensed pedal position always equals commanded throttle body position.

And be aware, this will make the truck feel "jumpy" because throttle by wire does not have that same resistance of a direct cable connection of days gone by.

Anyways, I do not currently have the budget or time right now to buy an ECU programmer and crack it open, but I'm certainly not opposed to working on it someday.
