When I did the dip on my grill, I found that as you get to the last couple of coats, you need to hold the can farther and farther away. I also know you have to heat that can up while you wait for the coats to dry, a hair drier helps immensely! This is prior to the Glossifier, which in my opinion makes the charcoal color look more black. See the second pic.

It came off the same as far as I can tell (peeling excess off around edges)

Yep even tho I’m an Alabama fan I love the Inferno color. High school colors was black and orange so I’ve always loved that color scheme. Orange and blue together on the other hand is just garbage lol.

Are there 2 different versions of the Black Emblem Overlays?

From what I have found, it looks like Toyota sells an overlay kit in which the letter "A" isn't filled in with plastic at the top, so u can see the paint thru the top of the A. There is also less black plastic between the connecting letters.

Then there are these ones (pic attached), which are more knockoff plastic overlays. Is that correct?

I'm looking for my 2017 Inferno. I prefer the ones without the Letter A filled in, but ended up with these...

    Hey @Bmore_inferno (aka Mike),
I believe you are right. To tell you the truth, I think there are even black replacements, not just overlays. I am plastidipping mine tomorrow maybe. Have to rotate my tires too so that takes precedence. But I might be able to do both at the same time.

Post back whatever you find out though if no one here answers.
    Thanks.

thanks Rob. it looks like the 2017 emblems are a "new version" where the lettering is a little larger and different than previous years. So it doesn't look like Toyota offers a black emblem overlay kit. the only option is the Nox Lux 3rd party emblem overlays, but the "filled in letter A" and edges drive me nuts with a little excess plastic mold showing. I know its minor, or very detailed, but it makes a difference to me and looks a little cheesy.

Hopefully Toyota releases a black emblem overlay kit for 2017+ models sooner than later. otherwise it sounds like plastidip is the better option to go at this time, to get a much better wrap around the original lettering.

Yea, I thought I heard the coverage was not full. I'm with ya, that's lame.

I had never done plastidip before this forum. I watched a lot of YouTube vids. Guys were making it look too easy not to try. I also learned to keep the can in a pot or bucket of hot tap water in between coats. Some guys even tape those hand warmer packs to the can. I think too using the hair dryer helped it to dry smoother. I even thought about debaging but I like them in black.

I think I just talked myself into doing it tomorrow. :D

Oh heck no! Both the sliders and bumper are @RelentlessFab and they installed both on the same day. (And we got to make a nice weekend of it in Reno!)

Wow, that's really nice. I got to sit on a sticky vinyl couch in a hot warehouse like 4wd parts place when I had my tires and wheels installed.
