I’m thinking 10.5” barrel with a 3 lug attachment for the suppressor, barrel + suppressor should be 17.1”

 

300blk is awfully fun suppressed. Especially for fun, closer range plinking. plus theres quite an offering these days of cheapish 200-220gr 308 bullets.

I have heard the 277 wolverine can be suppressed. And its pretty quiet. But performance by the numbers isnt quite as good as a 300blk in subsonic form. For an all-in-one caliber though it is quite a decent option though. Good medium range but can also go subsonic for the fun there. ALmost feell ike it was developed in the opposite of the 300blk which performs good subsonic and is decent for supersonic

The .277 wolverine was designed to have the positive characteristics of the 300 BLK, 6.8 SPC, and 5.56.
It has good subsonic performance, good supersonic performance for medium game, and is inexpensive while maintaining parts compatibility with 556 guns (sans barrel).
I’m hesitating because I want to go short but I want it to be a multi-role gun, or I could build a 12.5” 6.8 upper and also build a 9” 300 blk....

 

Everything Ive heard on it so far has said it isn't as good as 300blk in subsonic. That might have change as Im not really actively following it anymore. Maybe once it gets SAAMI I'll look into it more.

That and I kind of just got out of the "all-in-one" calibers. Ive got the 233 for the ranom, cheap, fun plinking. The 300blk for the suppressed fun. 458 socom for the big bore fun. Then the AR-10 (still only 308 for it) for longer range

 

There's no such thing as an "all in one" AR caliber.

If I could only keep one AR on a deserted island, It would be my 10.5" 6.8 SPC. If I could take two - i'd also Bring an 8.5" 300blackout.

 

It's a reloading thread, so anything can be suppressed. My 7-08 is a ton of fun suppressed. Get whatever gives you the upper range of what you need because us reloaders can suppress anything. Just make sure it has a fast twist.

 

Got a question for you guys. I am new to reloading so forgive my newb questions. I just got a Lee loader set in .303. When I bought the gun I got a bunch of Wolf .303 with it as well. As far as i can tell the primers on these rounds are crap. Maybe 1 out of 10 will actually fire the rest just get light strikes. I believe I have ruled out the gun as the issue by testing it with different ammo and every one of those went bang. My question is: Is it possible for me to pull the bullets from the Wolf ammo and also use the power from them to load into the brass that I have? If this is stupid feel free to set me straight, but I think if I could do this the money I spent on the Wolf ammo wouldn't be as huge of a waste.

 

Just a wild ass guess but one of two things are causing your problem.
Primers not fully seated or dirty primer pockets.

 

I got tired of the 300 blackout debate; I just built AR15 chambered in 7.62x39. Just test fired it yesterday to make sure everything is in working order, and it shot beautifully.

 

I believe some of those ammo brands have very hard primers. If possible find someone with a 303 and have them fire a few rounds to compare. Could be a weak spring in the bolt as well. Just my 2 cents

wolf usually is berdan primed. But if you can salvage the bullets and powder it prob would be ok.

could also be a gummy firing pin/bolt assembly.

 

That is what I thought originally. I replaced the firing pin spring and cleaned all the cosmo out of there to make sure it wasn't that. I was thinking of doing what wilcam47 said. Just pulling the bullets reusing them and the powder then tossing the rest.

 

also wolf powder is typically corrosive IIRC...

 

I don't think I have heard of corrosive powder. Only primers. Either way it says no corrosive on the box and I clean my rifles pretty well after firing them.

Any pistol cartridge reloaders here? Im going to reload some of my .480 ruger. Just wondered what would be a good powder to use? it will be for hunting purposes.

 

I don't load .480 Ruger, but I do load .38 and .357. I use a lot of Unique.

My books list 7 or 8 other powders also.

Start with what you have on the shelf, and go from there.
