I took my '04 in for a frame inspection today and it failed. I think I'm kinda relieved, as I was debating on whether to trade it in or not. It's been paid for since last summer. The frame has a lot of surface rust on it, but didn't think it would fail. There was one next to mine that was getting a new frame, and the technician explained what they do and how they do it. While it's being reframed I'm gonna have them do the 5100 install on the fronts, new rotors and brakes, new bushing kit, and whatever else I can come up with. If you guys have any suggestions throw them out there. There will be a small labor charge for the front shocks, and none for the rear. The truck only has 58,000 miles on it. I gotta go do some shopping, talk at you later. Mike

04 in Penn? A lot of winter driving, no? I have an 01 in Calif. I guess I'll be in no rush to sell the Jeep. I thought the problem was resolved and it only affected 95-2000s?

We get about 5 months of winter weather here, November thru March. They use a brine solution as well as salt on the roads. I received a letter from Toyota awhile back stating I should have it checked, and I'm glad I did. The recall is only for those states that encounter heavy winter conditions.

Where in PA are you located? I have a 2003 with similar mileage. The closest dealer to me can't spray the frame until they get approval from the township. I will call around to set up an appointment to take my truck in for inspection.

Oh really, if you qualify for the frame coating or replacement depends on where you live? I came close to buying an 01 from a guy in SC. He said that he had owned in in marlyand for a while. I wonder if it had rusted and I brought it in, what toyota would say? Does it depend on the original purchase location or current location?

The coating/replacement is determined by if it fails or not. If it fails then they will replace if 2001-2004, buy if older. If it passes they will coat it. The only reason location plays a factor at all is b/c in areas where they salt the roads there is a higher chance of it failing.

It sounded for a second like they would only spray the preventative coating if you live in an area that salts the roads heavily.
