Just checking in. I recently moved to Livingston Montana this late summer from Georgia. I didn't get a lot of opportunity to camp or offroad to much before winter set in. I`d be interested in exploring this great state a little more with some other Toyota 4x4 enthusiast. Any meets this summer or sooner?

There are some cool places around. Probably not as open to wheeling as GA/TN area, but some good stuff if you do some searching around. Jackson/Willow Creek will give you some cool views but not very technical. Haven't made it all the way through Main Boulder Road, but looks promising on the way to Independence (got held up by some deep snow, ended turning around). There's also Flathead pass just north of Bozeman. See you around town.

Yep I`ve been checking out the other tacomas rolling around town. Montana seems to be Toyota country. Jeeps rules the roost in Georgia. Honestly I didn't hit hardly any trails in Georgia. Just basic camping spots. I like how there is so much public/national forest access so close to town. I had to turn around on the boulder as well. Great fishing there but I need to install the new leaf springs before I continue to further down that road. I`ve got a bunch of upgrades that will be installed in the summer. All new suspension has already been ordered. I`m waiting closer to summer before ordering an ARB bumper(don't want to store it for the winter) and maybe a winch as well. So after the upgrades I`ll be interested to test them out.

If you have FB there is a nice group named Magic City 4x4. They do small get togethers often and also help maintain a lot of the trails in the Pryors and Beartooths. Mostly jeep guys but some sweet SAS toyotas too. I haven't been to any yet, my rig is down for the moment.

Some cool areas, but not a ton of trails. Im from Northern Wyo and there is WAY more public land there to explore. That said, Benbow is pretty cool and as mentioned Independance pass is fun. Going up into the Beartooths there are some epic areas in the Wyo/MT border area like Goose lake area, Sunlight Basin, and the infamous Morrison Jeep trail. The Pryors also have some pretty fun chill roads and cool things to see.

I haven't done a lot much west of Boulder road but want to check it out.

Independence is super easy but also very very pretty and fun. Cool old mine up there and one hell of a nice hike up to Monument peak if you're up for it. Blue lake is gorgeous.

Lol I have a bit of a connection with NWE, so i usually know what is coming up for jobs but nothing much as of yet. Appreciate you keeping an ear open though! I am not against a change, I like oil and gas, but I don't like Texas lol.

Man Alaska would be amazing but its damn near impossible unless you have like 15 years exp. Nodak would be fine, I got offered a job there about 5 months ago but turned them down. Didn't even apply for it, just random networking.

where my dad has been for 30+ years. Not as an engineer but at the slope.

Its a different world up there. Pretty cool.

Either way your field is slowly dying. So i think its good to branch out.

Yea its totally different, would be amazing.

Yea slowly it will, but not in our lifetimes. Hell all the alternative resources need petroleum products to make them, its not just about gas. But you are right. One day it will happen.

No doubt. But the fact is that there isn't about to be another big oil boom haha We are no where NEAR ready to get rid of oil in the slightest.

No, and honestly I am glad. The boom sucked lol. Sure everyone made money, but you had people out there working that didn't know what the hell they were doing. Money was just thrown away on projects that could have been handled somuch better. I have always been interested in alternatives, wanted to study that initally but the market just wasn't quiet there yet.

I wish I knew more about natural gas. My family has a piece of dirt on the Marcellus and Utica formations in Western PA that's ripe for development.

now theres a part of the industry that is just depressing. There is SOOOO much of that stuff that they literally just burn it off by the metric ton in the field since there isn't the demand for it. No one will develop better uses for it either. sad really.

I had to work in Williston during the boom without making oilfield money. That sucked. I'm glad that I'm not doing powerline design out there anymore.

there are some projets being worked on by companies that will hopefully reduce the amount of flares being used. Will collect more gas, and reuse it for production methods as well as sales. Being backed my the government to reduce the emmisions as well. Its just not relaly economic right now with gas prices.

    ya screw that lol

Eventually you will probably see some action. Everyone is slowly ramping back up now the oil is back around $60+ mark.
