Yeah I got the Optoma UHD60. This is the first "reasonably priced" 4k projector. Before this they were all $10k or more. I figured that all my favorite games are going to be coming out for the Xbox One X, so I might as well upgrade to make the most of it.

You should come check out the surround sound setup though, the difference between an actual 5.1 or 7.1 setup and a nice sound bar is really just the directional sound, but that is useful for gaming. I can't really crank mine anyways, being in an apartment.

Once you get used to a large screen you can't go back. I struggle watching anything anywhere but home or a movie theater. It sucks. Don't do it!

I still have a 34" Tube type Sony XBR...

FWIW, it was the reference that all other TV's used to be compared to when HDTV's first came out.

I've always been this way with all my cars. In the warm months I'm fine letting it get to 1/4, but in the winter I start getting paranoid as soon as it hits 1/2.

If there was a way for me to post a pic of the difference between my old 1080p 100" and this new 4k HDR 100" I would. It really is astounding.

Edit: I thought I was living the high life before, now I know the truth haha

Still running a 52" 1080p led to from maybe 2007. We got it when moved into our first apartment after college on a Black Friday from Circuit City. We thought it was great deal at like $2,000. It literally took up almost a whole wall in our apartment in Arlington. I see no reason to upgrade unless it shits the bed somehow. It's plenty big and the resolution is fine.

I do wish I still had surround sound, but it was just too many wires and I didn't feel like fishing them through the walls ( was a 5.1 system also purchased on black Friday from Circuit City in like 2007). Now it resides in my garage. A nice sound bar would be cool, but I've got better shit to spend my money on.

    Madness.

I think for me it comes from getting my license before there were 24-hour pumps out in the country. If you wanted to go do something after 8pm, you'd better have tanked up earlier in the day

Meh. I've got a 27 inch LCD downstairs in the cellar that I watch stuff on all the time, doesn't bother me sizing back down. I've got it set up on a swivel so I can watch either from the couch or while I run in the mornings.

Depending on what exit you were at, the next one can be a long long walk, no to mention a crap shoot if they have a gas station off the exit.

Cause someone developed a formula on the "best" tv screen size to have depending on how far away you sit from it. I think technically my room said a 70" but, that was out of the budget.

But now I get to stay in my safe place and be in my own little world....deal with people & outside; that's just crazy talk

We had a 46" Sony that was also a Black Friday special and it met it's death by way of a 2 yr old and a projectile... We now have a 55" that was $100 less than the 46" and much better specs. It's crazy how much they've dropped in price over the years.
Not sure if I was supposed to like that or not...

I got 7.1 sound about 10 years ago. I did this because the receiver allowed me to put speakers in another rom and have it play something different while someone was watching TV using the surround sound. THe 7.1, if set up right is freaking crazy good. I can just imagine what the new technology does for it.

It's crazy the price drop. My FIL got a like 27" sharp HDTV when they first came out and it was like $1200. Having never watched anything in HD before I was like really how much different can it be. Then we watched a Bruins game and I was blown away you didn't need the yellow circle following the puck, you could actually see it clearly...

Now you can get a much better specd TV for like $500. Nuts.

That was me watching The Dark Knight on Blu Ray for the first time. I couldn't get past how good the pic quality was, that I wasn't even paying attention to the movie.

FIL got a maybe 65" TV for their Maine place last year as the previous tv met it's demise via lacrosse ball from my brother in law.

Their living room isn't that big, first time I watches it I was like damn it feels like I've got my face up to the screen.

Lol nope, sitting 9-10ft away will callout for a screen that size. 30 foot living room does sound pretty nice though

Yeah the formula I used tells you how far away you can sit before you won't notice a difference in resolution. So for example, a 55" may have been 8 feet. If you sat 9 feet away, you wouldn't notice the difference in resolution. For 100" screen though the distance was like 14 feet, and I sit at like 11. It is very noticeable.

There's a lot of math in getting the right screen size for your setup, but it's worth doing!

Yeah I love mine. It really does feel like you're surrounded by the music/movie/game/whatever. I love that I can't get snuck up on in games anymore too
