    Zapata Falls?

Really pretty. Don't know how the hike or the falls will be this time of year though.

Dang sounds like it wasn't maintained well or was just a lemon. You don't even need to add oil to the 4.0s, they'll run on water.

The brakes were crappy on my last one... Wouldn't hold it at a stop when on steep descent.

Plan on a real rear axle if you want to wheel it. That rear end makes a Toyota 8" feel like a 1 ton in terms of strength. Though I think some of those might have come stock with a different rear axle other than the dana 35. Chrysler 8.75 I think

The engine was really solid, only one water pump and valve cover gasket replaced while we owned it. Other than the typical 4.0' piston slap it had no issues, and that slap isn't even really an issue.

The main thing I am worried about is reliability while overlanding. All my friends I wheel with have plenty of Toyota parts. We shall see though. I wanted a 3rd gen 4Runner but I can't turn down this deal.

Well it has a Toyota Automatic so you should be good there :notsure:. Engine is a solid/proven platform with great power for the time period (even today really). The rest of the vehicle could be hit or miss but I think the post 96 XJ might have been better.

Just give it a good once over. Carry the standard spare parts and you should be fine.

@thefatkid iirc they do come with some different rear axles depending on year or trim. The last one i had came with a d44 in the rear but that was swapped in.

Same thing with the transfer cases. I think the one typically used with the sye is the np246.

You will need 5100s, CMC, Add a leaf, TRD intake and exhaust, shift knob, SCS Wheels, brobar, and potentially some Clazzio seat covers (without seat warmers unless you are @aero3685) and then they might fit :D

    Dang it, nope :(
Guess I am not cool enough for overlanding status. I only have the one patch from BBR as well...

Just to explore, chill and take in some views.

I briefly owned an XJ, and ended up doing more research than work on it... one of the XJ forums has a sticky on improving gas mileage. It had to do with upgrading the injectors, the alternator/battery cables, the distributor/spark plugs and cables, replacing all fluids with full synthetic, etc. He claimed he 20 city/25 hwy mpg or something on 31" tires.

From what I am learning is they are either the best vehicle out there or they are complete turds. It's not like you guys are getting rid of my or anything. You will just have to put up with a man who owns a jeep
