RUST! Should I be concerned?

A little back story first. I had noticed a little bubble blemish that looked like rust with factory paint over it on my drivers side sill plate about 6 months ago. I brought it to the attention of my service tech when I brought in during one of my check ups and they said they would take care of it and they would give me a call to schedule it. Time went by and I forgot but I had noticed that bubble turned into rust all along the sill plate and now surface rust on some of the rivets on the bed. All though this may seam minor to most but for a 2017 I thought it shouldn't be happening. I do live in upstate NY where we do get snow and salt 5 months of the year and I did get it rust proofed when it was purchased but still???
So the other day while I was in for my 25K check up I once again brought it up to the service manager and he was shocked to see how much of this had evolved and was prompt to schedule an appt for this to get fixed.
My question to all and any of you is, should I be concerned and if there was anything else I should or could do?

Looks like some paint defects also, had some of that on my 2011 mustang with the hood but the dealer took care of it..

I've never lived in the north but if my truck had rust and its not even a year old I'd be pissed. Hopefully the dealer can help you out man.

Definitely get that fixed. I am in the Northeast as well and it will only get worse if you don't eliminate the rust now.

    Rochester NY...
Lived outside Syracuse for about 28 years. RUST is inevitable but horrible to have on a truck less than 2 years old. The dealer will probably note it, call the regional rep to come and make a decision on what to do. It will be up to the regional rep to decide approved course of action given that it does not change the usability of the truck you'll probably be left waiting a lot until it is straightened out.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I’ve lived in this area off and on for nearly 30 years and have never seen a newer vehicle rust that quick and that’s why I thought it must be some sort of defect as well. I know the dealership will probably take care of this without issue but just wanted to throw it out there.

It is always good to document these types of things. If it were not for documentation the FRAME settlement would haven never gotten traction, and diesel gate wouldn't have happend.

That rust is totally unacceptable on a 17...!!:eek:

And some of it is coming from within....?? Looks like you need a lot of work to clean that up. Check all door sills and pillars VERY carefully and mark the spots with a grease pencil and take pics for possible law suit later...hehe!! Document the shit outta that..!

    Not enough to list
I'd also peel off the skid tape to see if rust is under that as well. Maybe even do it in front of the rep and take photos of it as well. Sure trust can be found under that.

I live down south and my truck developed a small area of rust and keep in mind it’s a 17 I bought last March so not even a year old and what I was told is that “it won’t affect the trucks mobility for many many years so for now Toyota won’t fix it”

However, one could argue that TOYOTA needs to cover improper metal preparation prior to painting should be covered "bumper to bumper" Basic: 36mo /36,000mile warranty.

I did mention that and still came back with the same. I was basically told that they weren’t going to cover it and if I was worried about it then it was just a matter of getting a spray can and re touching it

Who is “they”, the dealer? Go around and above their backs, your warranty is as good as a contract.

    Rust belt area = rust.
The ONLY truck I would get in any snow zone would be a F150 aluminum body.

They have to give their answer to you in writing, describing exactly why they refused to honor your claim- federal law under consumer protection under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
