This review is done by a prepper and he actually talks about and shows ATV loading and driving with the Diamondback on a 3rd gen Tacoma (long bed). You're probably the only one in the world with your setup trying to load an ATV on a tonneau, on a Tacoma that high. If were me, I'd stay the hell away from your invisioned setup. You're asking for trouble.

I’ve seen them on back of full sizes, and they sit way higher than your lifted taco. You will be fine. Make sure your ramps are at a proper angle and take it easy.

Idk, the bed is rated for 1500lbs and my atv is 450... Also I have Air Bags for leveling out the suspension. Here in Alaska I see plenty of guys with huge lifts, 37’s and sled beds carrying two snow machines on top.. Those are full size trucks though... just researching at the moment, the HD diamondbacks are rated for 1500lbs btw...

Yup all is covered in that vid. Do as you wish, I wouldn't put my ATV on a Diamondback with a 6 inch lift. Just curious why a little trailer isn't an option? It should be because you can get a cheap tonneau and probably a trailer for the price of that Diamondback.

I would just get a trailer. Much easier than loading in a truck. A 8x10 trailer should be less than $1000

Ok, here is the situation.. I tow a 3,800 lb travel trailer, I can fit my ATV in the bed of my truck but obviously the tailgate remains down. So then I would be forced to use a hitch extension or risk the trailer contacting the tailgate at the slightest turn. Problem is, using a hitch extension drops your tongue and weight limits drastically...

Sounds like you have mid-size truck problems. Time to move to a full size?

Negative, I’ll figure it out, even if It ultimately results in a DiamondBack cover with an ATV on top;) Local shop has a Tacoma with a 4 inch lift and 33’s. They load a full-size ATV on top of the Bed and have no issues. Not like I will be driving 60 and cornering like Mario Andretti...

Also looking into this, apparently they give you enough room so that your tailgate can be shut...

A friend of mine used to load 2 ATV's on top of a folding tent trailer, which sat pretty high---higher than your truck. Just strap it down well, and really shouldn't be a problem.

With that said, I'd much rather use a trailer. If there isn't enough space in your TT, I guess you have no other choice. Other than to man up and get a dirt bike instead. :)

Had a welder do some extensive work so the YZ would be secure off the custom TT bumper...

Man, it looks like life would be so much better for you with a 1/2 ton truck to pull and haul. You're going to be way over GVWR.

Especially if he snagged a used one on craigslist. You can find good deals for like $4-500

All those hitch extensions reduce your tongue limit 50% though....

Your payload is what? 1,000lbs? Trailer, assuming 10% tongue weight, is 400lbs. 450lb ATV. Which leaves 150lbs for all passengers, cargo, etc. You're over the weight limit.
