I was wondering if the earlier models 1st gen tail gates fit models between 2000-2004? Not sure if this matters, but I have a DC. I was looking to replace my tailgate.

    Thanks

Anything from a 95.5+ should fit any reg, xtra, dbl cab first gen. Only the step-side models had different gates.

That looks like a Toyota Pickup tailgate, not a Tacoma tailgate.

    Agreed, I think it's pre-95.5 - 89-95 if I were to bet.

    That’s correct 89-95. It’s on top

I just did some homework.... though the width is the same the latch won’t line up. Also, there’s no swapping the latch because the cable is aligned with the handle.

Too bad I was eyeing one... got some rust on my DC tailgate that’s an eye sore.

    Bumping this thread.

I need a new tailgate and I've always liked the 89-95 style. Anyone made one fit on a 1st gen tacoma yet? I would think it would be possible if the dimensions are the same which they are.

So for those interested in this mod all you have to do is get some 96-04 latches and redrill them to the same measurements as the 1st gen tacomas basically a bit higher up. Everything else swaps over and tailgates are the same dimensions.
