Yes, I gave them energy suspension poly body mount bushings to install during the swap. It was not an issue.

 

So I just went to the dealer 15 Jan 18 and they found a hole. The service tech said that it should qualify for replacement, but then asked if I had check Carfax because there was significant damage reported and that could affect Toyota's decision to replace. I asked where the rust hole was found and he said that it was in the front of the frame. I then informed him that I had in fact been in an accident nearly a year ago, but that the damage was only to the rear of the truck (t-boned at the driver-side wheel) so it should have nothing to do with where the perforation was detected.

Today, I got underneath my baby and tried to find the hole myself. After a little searching I found it.

It's kind of a bad angle but you can see it here. The funny thing is it almost looks like someone took a ball hammer and made the hole (it wasn't me though). I checked what I could from underneath and found rust but nothing else approaching the deterioration of the 1 spot. Seems a little strange to me.

Still waiting to hear back from dealer about the repair approval. They did say that once approved, it would take about a month for all the parts to come in and then about a week for the work to be done. Having read some of the other post on this thread, should I be pressing the dealer for a rental now or just wait?

 

Itll get approved with a hole that size. They may not give you a rental while waiting for the parts unless the truck is deemed too unsafe to drive, cant believe the guy in the posts above managed to get a rental with as minimal of rust as he had. IMO if I were you, I would just take it easy and wait for them to give final approval and call you for a date to bring the truck in. Theyll have the truck for anywhere from 2-7 days, and theyll give you a rental during that time. Pressing them for one before hand may not go anywhere.

 

The service manager at the dealership told me that once the frame fails inspection, Toyota wants it’s off the road. Hopefully they’re telling me 2-3 months to get the parts so that I’ll be happy when it comes in a month. Til then I’m rockin a 4 door Nissan Frontier.

 

Youre a lucky man!! I know it varies from dealer to dealer, I know my dealer specifically only wanted me in a rental for the time the truck was being rebuilt. And all the other guys ive known who have had frame swaps done in canada didnt get rentals until their truck was being repaired.

 

I’ve had my rental since 10/3. Per Toyota’s instructions, once a rust perforation greater than 10mm is found dealers are to offer customer alternative transportation. See Toyota document ZH6.

 

I swear things work differently in Canada, i know its the same lawsuit but ive heard nothing but bad things about Canadian swaps and obviously experienced one myself. Dealers here are unwilling to do anything other than the frame replacement and rental during the swap, and getting them to do anything else is like pulling teeth. All the technicians did during my swap was complain about how much they didnt want to do it, and then they did a super shitty job as a result

 

I've had zero problems with this frame swap. But then I bought off lease so have no idea how long the procedure takes. By now you'd figger they'd have it down faster than a rodeo event with a policy to match. The question I have is why don't they just fix it. If it's metal, change it, if it's the coating, fix it. This shouldn't be difficult with their deep R & D budgets. This is bound to be cutting into the bottom line. It's just good business.

 

Just wondering anybody's luck with their frame getting replaced because of their frame rails separating. Mine passed the inspection, then I found this. Going to a different dealership to see what they say.

I got my truck back yesterday!! They didn’t try and hit me up with any bs charges. I pushed for them to replace my towhitch to no avail. All is good so far. After nearly 4 months without my truck I was so excited to drive it again. I did buy some gen 3 off-road springs and struts to have swapped out. I’m very happy I did, they ride great and have almost no miles on them.

 

I was told my parking brake was seized on my 07 and was wondering if I should have them fix it for around $450? It's an auto transmission so I doubt I'll ever use it. I also have 3rd gen suspension for them to install on it.

 

They told me mine was seized as well.. I also have an 07 crew cab. They quoted my close to $600 to fix it. Seems absolutely ridiculous to replace a cable that they are taking apart anyways.

I opted to NOT have it fixed. I have never once used it and will fix it myself down the line for a quarter of the price they quoted me

 

Mine were cracked but still functioning. They wanted $300 to replace them. I figured I’ll just keep them from rusting and I’d be good to go.

 

After waiting a few months for my new frame to arrive, I finally brought my 2006 Tacoma in today. Less than three hours after I brought it in, my service rep gave me a call with an estimate of about $1,125 worth of parts that the mechanics thought should be replaced. This included the intermediate shaft, steering yoke, cab mounting cushion sub assy (two front and two back), and two cab mounting plates. I really do not know much about any of these parts, or if the three hours was enough time for the mechanics to properly inspect the items (instead of just shotgunning parts). Has anyone else who has had their frame swapped out for the rust recall had recommendations to change these parts, and if so, did you have to pay out of pocket for them? While I had an understanding before I took the truck in that I would likely be paying something out of pocket, I want to make sure that whatever I pay for is legitimate, and is definitely something that will not be covered by Toyota under the recall.

 

I would say if this stuff is already coming apart for the frame replacement do not I repeat do not pay any labor they are double dipping with toyota paying the labor for the frame replacement then you paying for labor of parts that are already removed!

 

If the cost is just for the parts and not labor, does changing these parts seem legitimate, or should some (or all) of the parts that I mentioned be included in the frame recall? Naturally, I am suspicious about this whole process, as I am sure the dealership is going to try to make some extra money on this somehow. I assume their labor charges and some parts will be reimbursed by Toyota, but in the mean time, they could have used the time they are taking on my truck to make money on selling parts and labor to another customer.

 

It all depends on if they were affected by rust but aren't part of the process or are worn/broken past their lifespan. As a tech it is hard to say without seeing the parts for myself. I get the frustration.
