Underbody wash with Krown Coating?

I live on a dirt road. There was so much dirt stuck to the fluid film that I was forced to power wash it prior to recoating. Not everywhere - just around the wheels.

 

Got a response direct from Krown this morning:

"Our product is oil-based and is designed to repel water & moisture so it would take more than just soap and water to remove it from your vehicle. You would need a powerful degreaser as well as high water pressure to have any effect on the product once it has been applied and most commercial car washes are not strong enough to do this. While you could go through a car wash right away after application, we generally recommend customers wait about a week to allow the product to creep and penetrate into all the pertinent areas of the vehicle. After that week, regular car washes are fine but we would advise against the underbody wash more than a couple of times a month."

So that's that as far as I'm concerned. Between Line-X in PA and Krown, I'm definitely not going to do the underbody washes at a car wash.

I fluid film, and I only use the garden hose to rinse off excess crud. Otherwise I leave it alone.

 

I have Corrosion Free (Like Krown) applied each fall.... It works well. When I get what I think is way too much salt build-up and we get a January thaw....like we just had.... I turn on a garden sprinkler and hose in my driveway and slowly drive back and forth over it.... Seems to remove a lot of salt....!

Now I gotta get the hose back into the garage before it freezes...!! My driveway was full of sand and salt, after doing this..!

 

I usually go to get a salt wash from krown cone spring. Through the winter I've gone to the drive through touchless wash in my other car no issues.

The issue I've found with krown is temperature . Above freezing it gets somewhat runny vs the thick tacky in the cold .

So I'd say maybe in the really cold days... But then I don't like getting washes in those cause it gets frozen everywhere.

I'd say the odd wash is probably fine. But not repeating it every week. If anything just go to a self serve wash bay

NY in GENERAL gets more salt than PA, I'd have to think. Got a co worker that just came from long island to philly, and she asked after the last snow storm if philly owned any salt trucks. There were maybe 4 main streets salted. This was IN the city but that was about the norm. That reminded me of when I first moved here about 20 years ago, and I remember wondering the same thing having come from NYC. But after 20 years I got used to the norm and forgot what it was like to see regular salt trucks. But when I think about it, PA definitely salts less. Once we get a certain distance from the city to the in-laws, it's all cinders and sand with maybe the on ramps and highways salted. There are some high roller neighborhoods though, that do get every street salted but that's FAR from the norm.

 

Has anyone succeeded in getting a discount from the "heavy duty crew cab pickup" rate at Krown, due to bed being plastic and being generally smaller than a 1/2 ton? I paid C$149.95 plus tax.

 

Not sure - I got mine done for $149USD + tax and that price is locked in forever.

 

I want to touch up a few spots, but I'm out of the Krown spray can. I have 2 cans of FF, can I apply Fluid Film over the Krown?

I used fluid film this past fall and it has held up really good. I don’t ever take my truck through a carwash though. Not just for the underbody wash, but don’t want any harsh detergents on the paint. might have to touch up a few spots from it rubbing off on me while working under the truck.
