RUST! Should I be concerned?

Well....Kick me in the shins and call me Hop-along....!! I did not know that.... Of course I've not owned a Ferd/Chebby/Dodge since 2005.

 

Ever see what that aluminum body does in a front offset collision? Peels back like a sardine can.

 

Vehicles are supposed to crumble in a crash to protect the occupants, if I am not mistaken the F150 scores the highest in pick ups and was the only truck to not have intrusion in the footwell in the offset collision.

That's how it starts. My 1997 was basically rust free for 15 years. Then, a little paint bubble along the windshield and over the wheel well showed up. From there they grew like a disease. I'd be furious if I had that on a two year old vehicle.

 

Check this out, same as OP. My truck has been fluid filmed a few times already and driven in minimal salt. Also washed very often. How did your situation end up OP?

 

Sheet metal provides virtually zero protection in collisions. It's how energy is absorbed and dissipated by the frame/structure that is important.

 

2017 Tacoma vs 2016 F150

Weight of this Crew Cab F150 4x4 was in the 4,700 pound range. They can be purchased with a lot of options easily breaking way over the 5,000 pound mark.

And, although the Tacoma braking distances are just fine, unloaded, the larger F150 has shorter stopping distances with 4 wheel disc brakes.

I like my Tacoma a lot.Nice compact size and a pleasure to drive.
