What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Im 6’1” as well and have those seats, i added the lumbar, but didnt do the seat heat. i have no knee pain from them My only complaint is the back is a little low, but they're comfy and way better than stock imo. i think if i were to do it over i would have gotten these if your into corbeau seats

Is your clutch pedal making solid contact with the cruise control switch at the top? When I had CC issues it was because my pedal was sagging about 1/8"-1/4" at the top so it would disengage the switch and thus disengage the cruise control.

You can adjust the rod/clevis or I went to the linear spring mod. Never had the problem since.

 

There's a tiny gap of free play before I feel any sort of resistance. About an 1/8th of an inch. Part of me thinks it's a loose cable but I could be wrong

 

There should be a minimal amount of play at the top, per spec.

Look at the pedal and see if it's making good contact with that switch. If that's not it, check the tension on your cruise control cable going from the throttle body to the unit. You can adjust that.

This is assuming your 01 is similar to my 98.

 

Should the cable be about the same as the throttle cable in terms of tension? I'll post a picture of the clutch pedal tomorrow see if anyone can tell me if it's messed up. Cause the cruise control works but its like temperamental lol. it either works and stays that way or decides not to work till some other time.

I think the spec is you should be able to push on the cable and get 1/4" of mov't on it. But the way I've always done it is tighten the cable to the point that there is no tension or slack in it when it's at rest.

I do this for both the throttle cable and cruise control cable. The former helping out with throttle response.

If someone more knowledgeable can chime in with an official spec on the tension, please do so.

This was my issue with cruise control not working! As soon as I went to the linear spring I haven’t had an issue with cruise control since!!

 

I bet it’s your clutch petal return spring. The next time the cruse control is being temperamental use your foot to pull the clutch petal up tight and hold it there. If the cruse then works, it’s your return spring. I got rid of the big coil spring and replaced it with a brake petal return spring. There is even a tab already up under there to hook it to.

 

My clutch pedal sounds like you stomped on a piglet lol so It wouldn't hurt replacing the spring and while I'm at it lube it to quiet it down at least

 

Mine was like that, ended up greasing the inside pivot and it still squeaked, it was the clutch fork. Greased it all nice when I had it torn apart after the rollover. That took care of the squeaks.

 

If the plastic bushings on the return spring are worn out it will squeak. You can replace the bushings, but if the metal parts are worn the new bushings won’t last. Easier solution is to ditch that coil spring and go with a linear one.

 

I got lucky my 4 cyl only had a linear spring haha

Are you a 3.4?

If so that's the bushings in your torsion spring. Mine used to sound godawful too. Even worse on humid days.

I got rid of the whole thing and just went to the linear spring. Pedal works better now and is dead quiet. Also never have an issue with CC since.
