Yea, I'm glad the only thing ordered from them was there expo leaf springs

 

What was the issue with the bumper?

 

Only about 4 of the 9 mounting holes lined up with the stock mounts. And when I say they didn't line up, I mean they weren't even in the same zip code. I used to have pictures of how bad they were, can't find em now. I sent them to All Pro before modifying it to fit, they replied with an email that basically said "sucks to be you".
I had them powdercoat it as well, which was also a mistake. It's mostly different shades of flat black spray paint now.

This one had my buddy and I laughing the whole time we installed it. Now my new headlights work correctly and have better power wiring than the tiny gauge stuff the stock harness uses. Basically my stock headlight harness is just used to trigger the new harness' relays.

 

When I drove up to Sacramento to pick up the (non-existent) rear driveshaft the scrapper told me they had, I stopped by UC Davis to pick up a new rollbar. And before anyone says yes I'm stripping the Chrome and painting it black. I'm going for the "Marty's Truck" look - which was an '85 Toyota Pickup.





I'm going to have it reverse electro-plated, as it's difficult to sandblast Chrome plating off. This is my second rollbar as the first one was only a single bar one and not a dual one like this one is - and the old one was made for like a Ford F-150 or something. I never mounted it because the proportions were way off so I went to find a new one made for a Toyota bed.

Back to the driveshaft thing I was in the scrapping district of Sacramento which had the big eBay recyclers like ToyAuto Mart, T&L, LKQ, etc. and NONE of them had the driveshaft I needed. I called about 12 different recyclers and they all told me the same thing. I guess 4 Cyl 4x4 Automatic Ext. Cabs are rare.

 

Have you though of having a one piece made? Tom Woods or maybe a local place could do it.

 

I called a local driveline shop and they charge $160 to shorten my old PreRunner two-piece shaft, which is what I'm going to end up doing.

Is doing a one piece driveshaft beneficial over the two piece one with the carrier bearing? I'm thinking ground clearance issues

 

You got plenty of other things to worry about protecting and bashing before what would amount to another couple square inches or so of driveshaft hanging down at your current height. One piece shafts are easier to make and balance, and they can be stronger (torsionally), sometimes they're made from thicker wall tubing too to improve bashability. Two pieces can be strong too but their real purpose is to improve comfort and balance on long shafts. You wouldn't want to convert a large box truck to a one piece for this reason, but the Tacoma shaft really isn't super long and well within the realm of balance-ability as a one piece.

What kind of wheeling are you into that's got you thinking about the ramifications of a one piece shaft?

 

Now that you mention it, ground clearance isn't a huge issue for me. How expensive is it to have one made?

 

Depends on who you go to, but most local places should be able to make one for you if you bring your old shaft in as it is unlikely they'd have the mating ends on hand, unless you use a popular builder for Toyotas like Tom Woods. Sounds like the shortening is a good deal in your case though, $160 is pretty middle of the road. A custom built one piece would cost more. There was a place close to where I used to live where the guy could do it and balance it while you wait haha, he only did drivelines and his works was solid.

 

When one should I order for the 3.4l? 07028(middle in photo) or 07020(right in photo)?

My cruise control works temperamentally and I want to know which spring to buy. Are they both essentially the same?

 

Make sure Biff puts two coats of wax on it, not just one.

 

#2 has been working great for me.

#1 is the OEM spring meant for this application.

I would not order the one on the right (07020). That does not look like it would appropriate.

I think these springs are $3 ea from the dealer. I'd order both #1 and #2 to have on hand when you doing the mod.

Also - fair warning: there is a lot of energy in that torsion spring you are going to remove. Be careful.

That’s what I was looking for, thanks. I had spoken with them, and was told they might need machining, but didn’t know about the f5’s.

 

Do you have to take off the old rails? Or is it plug and play.
