I'm a law clerk right now. One year gig that ends in August. Just passed the bar last July. I've just started interviewing for positions for next year. I've been kinda all over - big firms, small firms - but the main goal is some type of litigation.

I'm lucky in that aspect. I'm at the job I'll be at once I graduate and pass the bar, so I'll be in-house counsel. No one works over 40 hrs a week unless they want to. And it's 2 miles from the house. Perfect gig.

It's not fun, but law school isn't as crazy as you hear about unless you're trying to be #1 in your class. It is super competitive, but being that I already have my job lined up, I don't have to compete as much as my classmates do. Class ranking, as well as things like law journal, moot court, and externships can help get you a job. I'm super lucky that I don't have to do all that crap.

    Woooo!!

I’m in trial law (Plaintiff) and I love it. Small firm 4 lawyers. Not a fan of the big firms although they do typically come with a higher salary (as an associate).

I am definitely not trying to be #1 in my class lol.

You are lucky you have something already lined up. Hopefully I can network to be in the same position as I near graduating. Hopefully I will be based on the two jobs in the law field I’ve already had.

I’m more worried about money... school is too damn expensive. This will be my first time taking out debt for school.

Big law = big salary = big amount of hours worked. I know some folks in big law who work 80 hrs a week. It seems on its face that $200k+ a year is a lot, but when you're literally working twice what is required, it's not that much. I'd rather put my 40 in and make less. I work to live, not the other way around.

I'd meet as many people as possible and make a good impression (sounds like you've already done that). What got me in the position I'm in is I did a 3 month internship at the Georgia Capitol for my local senator straight out of college, which led to a full-time job with his company. I didn't know I was going to get that job while interning, so I went to as many networking dinners and talked to as many people as I could (mostly lobbyists) while at the Capitol. Fortunately, I didn't have to go any of those routes because I love my job.

There's no getting around the cost of it. My student loan bill is scary, but it'll be worth it once I'm done because of the salary boost.

Go to the highest ranked, accredited school that will give you the best scholarship. Try to be #1 in your class, or at least graduate with honors. It does make a difference in finding jobs. If you already have one lined up, that's great, don't worry so much about it, but, I don't see a point in limiting yourself by not putting in the effort. if you're there, you might as well get as much as you can from it. You wouldn't go to the weight room and half ass through a work out right?

I don’t like that I enjoy trial law as much as I do. Its a lot of hours but also a lot of political BS. So it’s 80 hours a week of work then 10-20 hours of being politically involved to help fight for the best interests of your clients/future clients.

But its fun so I guess its OK.

I would say most of the time we work 45-50 hours a week. Only occationally does everyone flip out and do long nights. All depends on the culture of the firm.

It only gets like that at trial time.

You certainly don’t get into trial law for the money though. You are right its not a fair trade. You have to be passionate or youll burn out in a heart beat.

We have to lift! If not who would be able to balance the scales of justice????

None of these lawyer nerds do. That’s for sure.

That’s because I’m below all your fat rolls. Hard for sound to travel around them.

What do you guys do for HIIT?

I’m just now trying to do it. I’m used to being a runner so I’m used to 1/4 to 1/2 mile intervals.

Are those too long for HIIT?

I feel like 30 second sprints are pointless for conditioning but the point of HIIT is more to burn calories... soo.. maybe I’m thinking too hard.

1/4m isn’t terrible but that’s pretty long for HIIT. There is a NFL Linemen workout that I usually do. I think it’s from the Giants? It’s 10/10/10/10.

10min on the treadmill on a 10 incline at 10 speed for 10sec intervals. So you run from 0:00-0:10 then rest until 1:00 and run again until 1:10 then rest until 2:00 and so on and so on for 10minutes. I usually kick it up a little bit and after the first 5 I’ll go 12speed 12 incline 12sec or 15/15/15 depending on how I feel. Just keep the treadmill on and jump on/off. Another modification is to do push-ups during the 50sec

I haven’t done them in months, mainly bc I do 0 cardio. I would do them at the end of a workout as a finisher.

It sounds easy and 50sec rest is a lot and the first couple are but after a few that rest time goes by so quick and you’re about ready to fall off

I did battle ropes and box jumps tonight. Haven’t done ether in FOREEEEVRR. I’m dead. But i usually do 30 sec sprint 60 sec rest

The 5 times a year I actually do cardio, I prefer the stairmaster, elliptical, jump rope, and punching bag. I do 20 secs high intensity, 40 secs low intensity for about 10 mins. I'm usually too worn out after my workouts to do cardio though.

I did treadmill today. “Sprints” for 60 seconds and rests about 75 seconds. Also did 35 mins of LISS (prior to the HIIT to really warm up).

I did stairs yesterday. Stairs are awesome for upping HR and burning extra cals.

I gotta admit for dropping about 2lbs a week. I’m feelin pretty great.

It’s also nice to take a break from the hypertrophy workouts. You feel less beat to death.

Except I’m coughing a bunch this morning and my co workers are like “OMG are you sick?”. And I’m like “No, its the cardio” lol.
