So did you test drive your truck? Som times doing so is reeaaallly helpful to avoid spending a small fortune on a sheep in a wolf's skin!

If you must keep your Tacoma but cannot live with its engine, yank it out along with the tranny, take it behind your shed, shoot it with an anti aircraft gun; and then drop a real engine of your choice in there. Probably won't cost you much more than trying to figure out how to boost this turd!

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Case and point Honda S2000. Adding FI is a 6-8k investment for +100-200hp gain. Better to drop in an LS V8.

Yeah.. I feel the same - well to be precise, I don't think it is the lack of power, but more the gearing and tranny programming... not that I don't want more power... it takes a lot more throttle dabbing to get the tranny to kick down than I'm used to in other cars. the ECT Power button helps..

I waited well over a year to get my new 2016....always planning to install a TRD supercharger. I was incredibly disappointed when I found out that TRD would not have an application for the 3.5, let alone the fact that they were discontinuing superchargers altogether. I waited too long...........

Well, this truck has been out 3 years now. I'm not holding my breath for an FI kit. Sucks cuz I would be all over it.
Maybe if the 4runner picked up the 3.5 also, companies would have started to develop for the motor.

Uh there is an HKS centrifugal Supercharger for the 2GR-fks. MonkeyWrenchRacing distributes these kits in the US and UK.

As far as I know, no-one has attempted to install this kit to a taco, it would likely take a bit of custom work, and maybe some collaboration with the orange virus people to really maximize the gains... but MWR might offer a discount to anyone willing to give it a try in the MI area.

In Japan, the kits are designed for RX350, Alphard, and VellFire.

Anything can be supercharged, turbocharged, twin turbos... anything as long as you have the money and time.

From what I understand OVTune is working on a turbo kit for this engine. As of now the in-progress tune for this truck is awesome with getting rid of the throttle body lag and shift optimizations. I have been running it for a while now.

That S/C is for a FWD mounted motor and the intake manifold design is completely different. There would be hardly anything off of that kit that would work for our Tacomas. It would require as much, if not more, fabrication to fit as a completely universal system.

That being said, there is no reason that the 16+ Tacoma can not be super/turbo charged. The engine is not a true Atkinson cycle engine, so it can be turned off via tuning. Twin turbos would be very easy to fabricate being that there is only one exhaust port off of the head and making manifolds would be very easy.

The truck is only 2 years old, so I expect the major mods to be coming shortly especially considering frustration of a lot of owners from the lack of power.

Yes it can definitely be supercharged, a supercharged atkinson cycle is called a miller cycle engine and it has been done many times before. This would be more advantageous on our application than many others, as it would provide a much needed boost in throttle response in addition to the normal more HP and torque.

This is due to the fact that the atkinson cycle allows some of the intake charge to 'leak' back into the intake during the compression cycle. The intake valve remains open during a small portion of compression which causes this leakdown. A supercharger negates the effects of this leak down resulting in better throttle response because its constantly forcing the intake charge into the cylinder through boost, and most likely would also result in better fuel efficiency during cruising and varied throttle inputs as well because of better fuel atomization and dispersion.

For my own curiosity, and in no way for the sake of winning an internet argument  the RX350 upper intake manifold part number is the same as the tacoma as far as I can tell (17111-0P060)... (lower manifold is also the same)

Based on the pictures of the system mounted on the engine it looks to me like one might need to make custom vacuum lines, but thats not a substantial challenge in my opinion.

It would be pretty cool if someone would go on an adventure and see what happens!

first off, yall need to understand that the motor in the tacoma is not a true atkinson cycle motor, its simulating it with VVTiW ... or a wide range of variable valve timing, it does not have different stroke lengths.

Second, there is no kit for the tacoma, but with enough money and time you can supercharge anything.
