I really hate the term "overlander".

I (and a lot of us) set up my truck to take me into the woods or desert, to explore, camp, cook, hunt, hike and whatever else I want to do. I want to be safe, and able to make it home. Sure, I want to sleep comfortably, eat good food which is convenient to prepare. Actually, a fairly quick setup and tear down is nice, so I can spend more time exploring.

But, somewhere along the way, someone figured out how to make money by selling a "dream" or "ideal". They turned what we do naturally into a 'lifestyle", and figured out to profit from it.

Nevertheless, I know what I want, and that's what I do. What others may call it does not affect me at all.

should I have an overlanding segment on my cooking channel? it seems to be popular, maybe more so than owning a kitchen even

That is true. But, I starting doing what I do long before the label "overlander" was applied to it. See, when I started, it was called "car camping" (as opposed to backpacking, which I also do.)

Somewhere along the way, "wheeling" (or wheelin' in the South) became popular. It used to be just going exploring, riding, or driving through the woods. Again, someone figured out how to make money off this "sport". (People really call it a sport - I don't get it.)

The way I see it, the labels followed me, I didn't follow the labels. :p

I do lots of fancy fixins in the woods. Could even throw a few recipes your way, with tips on storage and prep.
