I was thinking of two different options.
    1. The two idler pulleys shown in the photo are slightly different sizes with the ribbed pulley on the left slightly larger than the smooth pulley on the right. Roughly 57mm ribbed and 54mm smooth. If replacement pulleys could be found to reverse those two then that would help some but clearance could be a factor.
    2. Timing belt idler pulley attached to the bolt directly and just below the sc pulley. Most likely will have to drill out the m8 bolt hole and tap m10 threads to ensure security. I'll post a pic in a few.

This has not been run on the truck yet and will not be until I ensure its security.

This is just concept so no bashing. Constructive feedback welcome. 15173715387552106021751.jpg 1517371826779304703994.jpg 1517371942084269483847.jpg

The last pic would make it adjustable depending on what size pulley you have. Both timing belt pulleys are the same diameter.

    Interesting concept indeed.

Have you already been running this mod?

That is one way to skin the cat for sure. That would offer not only increased belt wrap but improved belt life as a whole because less slippage equals better traction, better belt traction equals less glazing as a whole. Less glazing equals less damage to the belt.

Where did you get these pulley's from, part numbers also? An adjustable one would be most ideal, and if you really want to get intricate, an auto adjustable one would be even more high tech!

Definitely have NOT run this yet! There is no support on the back of the idler pulley to keep it straight so as it was in the picture the pulley was cocked and not parallel to the other idlers.
The kit is Dayco. Ordered from RockAuto and I couldn't get the pulleys individually.

Yeah this will require the pulley be supported properly in order to apply extra pressure to the belt setup. If it doesn't have proper support it will release the slack and then could cause the belt to jump off from the sudden large fluctuation in pressure and that could be detrimental.

Absolutely! That's why it's just an idea right now.

I mean it is a good idea. It would just require further implementation of reinforcement to make it work well.

Yes. The pulleys must stay parallel to each other or bad things will happen. And there will be a significant load on the added pulley so it must be mounted securely.

If there is a way to design a plate which runs over to the other bolt on the bracket I think that would aid it much more in maintaining stability. I am looking for a slim profile type auto tensioner that you could run in there instead of a manually adjustable one.

You know, the more I look at the setup the more I wonder if it would just be better to just redesign the bracket entirely and create a new one with all new bolt up locations which would allow better utilization of the pulley's to allow for better wrap around.

That actually sounds like the easiest way to me. Move the ribbed pulley to the left slightly and move the other one roughly parallel to it

Exactly. That was exactly what I was thinking! It would be a cheap solution also, not to mention you would have the ability to play with larger diameter pulley interchanges as well to change added tension.

Unfortunately though now we are looking at doing custom stuff here, and in doing so, it would be best to do the tensioner shave mod to allow more slack to allow the belt to flex more as you put it on if you do end up going with a custom pulley bracket.

Definitely not a fan of a fully aluminum pulley. Had to completely destroy mine to remove it as well. Once it started deforming the puller would slip off and at that point just started grinding it off.
