Thank you. I really want to keep my mud flaps. My truck never goes off road and they help keeping the truck clean.
I just cut my mud flaps to clear the cabin mount and the bottom of the fender and they are working, I’m holding them back with a metal wire. I’ll post a tutorial this weekend. I may try to get an extra set to do a much cleaner and smaller cut.
    Thanks again

Would love this! Also, I’m rubbing at that stupid part of the fender liner in the front that sticks out for no reason. Anybody have any photos of their heat gun or trim job?

if you're afraid of your sliders getting hammered you clearly aren't using the sliders for what they're meant for
not to mention wanting mud flaps lol.

Mine got torn off first trail run

If you're that concerned about paint maybe look into getting that 3M clear film?
If your sliders have fill plates it should help anyways.
I don't have any rock chips and even the bottom of my sliders barely show from stones.

I'm ordering a new set of mud guards tomorrow. I have my old ones working and not rubbing, actually they only rub just a hair at full lock when backing up. I'll make a tutorial.

When you are having the slight rub on the mudflap from a 265/70/17 or 265/75/16 tire, is it the inside edge of the tire or the outside? If the rim moved the tire outboard is that better? Or does a rim that moves in more inboard solve it?

Neither of those tire sizes. I’m on 285/70/17, 17x9 +1.

Gotcha. So it matters what width tire you are running as to whether it is the inside or outside that rubs on the mudflap?

Noticed a paint chip from a rock the other day. I’ll be modifying my stock flaps ASAP

Yup, this is why I modified mine versus just taking them off.

I hate the way they look too!!! BUT, my new 17' came without them so I thought I would see if the gravel roads would chip up my paint. 1100 miles and I started seeing some so ordered some factory mud flaps. Probly take them off once the new wears off or I get either sliders or running boards.

I put 17x7 et4 (4Runner TRD Pro) wheels with 265/70R17 (Falken Wildpeak A/T3W) tires on my OR with stock suspension. They only rub the mudflaps at about a 1/2 turn under braking or aggro reverse. I don’t plan any suspension mods, and I wanted to keep the OEM flaps.

Rubbing was only on this little bump out, so I used a heat gun and some scrap steel to countour the bump to better follow the rest of the flap.

This is the first smush. I probably hit each one flap with the heat gun 4 or 5 times to really smooth it out.

    Unmodified bump out.

    Modified bump out.

I’ve only driven with these for about a day (trying hard to force some rubbing), so far it seems like problem solved.

I have the same wheels and tires with the same rubbing. How has this been since you did that. I noticed there is quite bit of room behind the mudflap to really push thet portion back.

98% good. I have rubbed like twice since i modified the flaps. The time i remember was coming into a parking lot hot (almost missed it), and the transition from street was pretty rough. I think it takes a fair amount of compression mid-turn—and it’s quite a minor rub.
