After seeing Star Lord with that sweet Marlin 1895sbl on that dinosaur movie I had to have one. I settled for a cool stainless Rossi r92 in .44m, though. It's a great gun and I am happy with the compromise I made for valuing my shoulder but then it's happened again. I saw Hawkeye with one in the mountains at an Indian reservation and it's rekindled my big bore want again. So I've been looking again and came across the Rossi website listing a Rio Grande for this last year's catalog in 45-70 and potentially in stainless, too. But I cannot find anywhere that's selling them. Would anybody happen to know of an online vendor or should I just try to order locally?

    Pages 6&7.

And god bless America! Just jelly the off shelf price tada no jigs and whatnot, already own mags, etc. Lived in Colorado as a young man and a trip to the LGS, and an hour later we would be out target practice. Ahhh. Don't want to get political now....

Still doing some research but does anybody have any insight on the Sig P938 or even the P238? Considering one for a carry piece. I think I would prefer the 938 as it is 9mm but haven't ruled out the .380 as a contender.

Currently have an XDS .45 and thought the 938/238 would be a good alternative as they appear to be smaller, aren't polymer (not a hater, just prefer metal :p) and look like they'd be easier for me to carry. Have a hard time carrying the XDS comfortably in the warmer months as I don't wear loose clothing so it tends to print. It's a little too big for pocket carry otherwise I'd try that. Just looking for something that shoots well and is easy to carry.

So far it sounds like people seem to like either model, but I thought I'd get the TW perspective on these. :D

Better to ask what I have not done.
I have a 938 and have a modified houge grip with crimson trace lazer on it. I can not shoot the pistol well unless the 7 round magazine is in it with the pinky extension. I do like the pistol how its set up

A buddy has a 238 and between the two we can both shoot the 238 a lot more accurately, dont know if it was the guns or the fact that the 238 was the first and they changed it to shoot 9 and came up with the 938.

I hope that made some sense :anonymous: please ask me any questions

    Indeed it did. :D

Next on my to-do list is to see if any shops have rentals so I can give them each a try. I don’t shoot my XDS very well and I think that’s part of why I’m looking for something new. I shoot it better with the 6 or 7 round extension as well, but for me the downside is the extensions make it more difficult to conceal. In the unlikely event I ever needed it, it would do what I need it to, but I rarely carry it on my person solely bc of the discomfort it gives me. Maybe I just need to quit being a whiner.

Would you consider carrying either one regularly? Any likes/dislikes between the two? Would you buy one over the other? Do you have other similar compacts to compare them to?

Best I can tell they’re essentially the same gun but different calibers and I think the 238 is slightly smaller overall. I held them both at a local shop and actually liked how they felt. They also seem to be very reliable and have a fair amount of aftermarket support (holsters, grips, etc).

    Edit: Sorry for the novel...:anonymous:

Shield is a nice gun. Didn’t like how they felt in my hand but they’re nice. I was a large caliber snob for a while but have since decided that having anything is better than nothing. Also I personally wouldn’t want to get shot with any caliber round so I’d imagine most others wouldn’t either. :p

Guess I’ll just need to try them out. I’ve considered other options as well, but I’m all about comfort at this point.

That grip extension (Nightmare version here) makes all the difference in the world. Wouldn't have bought a model w/out it.

This is pretty sweet. SB Tactical adjustable arm brace with an MSRP of $160. This may be going on my AR9.

I'm not big on .380 personally. I was talking with an officer the other day who pointed out they usually only have 200 ftlbs of energy at the muzzle, whereas 9mm is usually 350ish, .40 is in the 400-500 range, .357 runs 500-700 load dependent. It just doesn't make as much sense to carry unless you need a TINY gun. Any gun is better than no gun.

I carry a .380 during the summer, a S&W bodyguard, because I'm a smaller guy and I can only really conceal the small stuff underneath light summer clothes.
Your guy may need to check his numbers, though, because the +P's that I carry in mine have something like 300 ft/lbs at the muzzle, and they're not even a high-energy round like Buffalo Bore. 200 Ft/lbs seems like a low estimate, even from a short barrel.

Maybe not the best choice for a defense round, but certainly not the worst. There's a plethora of fancy "defensive" rounds of almost any caliber as well so if it came down to it I'd feel adequately protected with a .380.

That said I would prefer the 9mm if the size and concealability suited my needs. Arguments can be made against the 9mm as well, however. Or any round for that matter. All boils down to what works best for you and whether or not you would trust your life with it. Gonna need some range time to determine that for myself. :quickdraw:

I had one for a week...a guy wanted my FNS9 more than his p938 SAS. I liked that it was small but in reality it was just too small for my hands.

My hands aren’t too big so I think I can manage. I’ve considered a j frame as a carry piece as well and those seem to fit me okay. Bit of a different gun though. :p
