Your unique mod on the 1st Gens

I love the IS300, if I had the space I'd have one right now. Really fun car with a great drivetrain.

 

For sure, it's one of the reasons I kind of want to do a 2J swap. Both engines are reliable but idk how dependable a swapped turbo 2J would be over a supercharged 5VZ. I do looooovvveee inline 6's.

 

I wouldn't want to swap a 2J, lots of people have done it but it doesn't really have the torque profile for a truck haha. I love inline 6s too, got the big 4.5L in my Land Cruiser haha. I think supercharged 5VZ is perfect for the taco cause you don't risk breaking too much stuff haha and a turbo 3RZ is good too for same reasons.

 

Yea, I was thinking about looking up the torque curve for the 2J but never got around too it. Has anyone swapped the Land Cruiser 4.5 into a first gen taco?

 

I have the same questions. And where did you get the grill from? I thought about modifying a 2013-15 TRD Pro grill but I really dig the FJ80 grill mod.

I'm also now searching for a Sienna wheel... and a compass mirror... and a 3rd gen runner rack.. i'm gonna fix things that don't need fixing...

 

Can't imagine putting the 4.5L in a Taco haha, it weighs more than a train, and all of the transmissions it mates to easily weigh as much as the accompanying coal car haha.

 

Put these super springs on my lifted 96 to help with load carrying. Worked out really nice.

When it's unloaded you can't even tell. I left about an inch and a half between the bump stop and the foam spring. So general driving they almost never engage. Can only really feel it if I'm unloaded and go over a large speed bump, and I can tell when the super springs engage, but they are pretty soft until more heavily loaded.

When loaded down they help ALOT! minimal sag, and really limits body rolls on sharper turns. And for reference I have the headstrong 3 leaf AAL which is why I had to make those raised mounts for the springs.

lol, yea this rig will never flex like that. It's my beater, really just needed it to be able to haul shit around. Was super close to pulling the triggers on bags, but then though I'd try something different.

 

i have a set of bags that have quick mounts for when i do tractor pulls with my taco. Pissed a bunch of people off by taking first place in heavy class last year by using rock crawler tricks instead of what they all suggested doing. 3.4 V6 pushing 42" tires Vrs. 3/4 ton ford and chevy's with big blocks engine's and on close to factory size tires.

 

Any pictures on the mids installation in the door panel? I like the looks of that very clean. What's the backside look like?

Yeah jealous you guys live so much closer to Moab. I’ll be back out there with you guys in a couple years I hope.

 

side note we may not do moab this year. (the Idaho group) might go run the rubicon and a few other trials in that area.
