Atleast a 100lb class conventional reel and custom heavy sticks like used for marlin or goliath fishing but in lengths out to 7ft harnesses and 20/0 hooks wire hmmmm i think that's it

Yeah biggest reels I have are some Shimano TLD25's which suite me just fine, but also never hooked up with a 8ft+ shark.

Yeah. Me and my grandpa were big into marlin fishing so we had some big gear. I have my grandpa's oldschool heavy outfit from the 40's or something like that its a hardwood rod with an old penn reel pretty awesome wall hanger.

Yeah I don't even want to know how much we lost out to sea during the hurricane but it was a sad day. I am still recouping I didn't fish for a long time once my grandpa got too old to go anymore and didn't really get back into it until a few yrs ago. Gramps was my fishing buddy and loosing him kinda hurt my drive to get out there.

Currently have 50lb mono on it but have been debating putting some braid on it to get the extra capacity.

I used to have that issue but have cut back some when I was outfitting my truck since you can't have TWO expensive hobbies... or at least that's what the wife said.

We always set our reels up with the steel wire leader then to mono (you want some stretch) after a few hundred yds then a braid backer to get capacity.

We have a ton of custom rod builders down here never had my name on any but had a bunch built the way I like to fish. I find that box stock stuff I like ok but there is nothing like having a custom blank with the right amount of backbone for the way you fish it's like a perfect fitting shoe!

Yeah we run steel leaders attached to the mono, like you said for the stretch. I just never could stomach the cost of the braid for how often I was using them. Have a 1983 Mako 224 I fish from with my buddies and just don't get out as much as I used to.

That Mako is a tank! I love the old Makos the newer ones are OK but to me the old Makos are the best. Have you seen their new 42'?

St. Croix is my favorite off the shelf rods but right now I only have more budget friendly stuff haven't really justified the cost of spending hundreds on one rod just yet. I like their muskie rods for trolling for big cats.

I have not. I love my boat, heavy AF but it rides great and feels solid. I have a 1990 Yamaha 225 on a 18" bracket so you have a nice platform off the back of the boat to work with.

Yours hasn't had any issues with the foam getting wet yet has it? That's the one issue with old boats. I had an old Welcraft V20 (another great classic) and it started having some issues like that.

I'm sure the foam in the hull is soaked but I don't notice it. Still hits 42mph WOT which is great for how big it is so the weight isn't an issue. Will likely need to replace the tank in the next couple years, other than that the thing is just a tank.

Sub'd for sure. Now that we're not on the lake anymore getting my fishing fix is going to be a little more difficult.
