Sweet. It may be as simple as sewing another door over where this one is, but with fasteners to hold the bottom in place when not propped open with bars.

2 more nights in the tent this past weekend. It handled the wind really well. Gusts were probably as high as 30 to 35, sustained around 15. I will need to devise a plan for holding the pull down straps as the rubber handles slap against the side of the tent in winds around 15 mph. Bungee cords should do the job. I second the idea about another flap to allow for having an awning while the door is closed. Chandler, if you do a retrofit for this we would definitely be in

How is everyone liking the hard shell's? Anyone coming from a more typical RTT? I am thinking of selling my setup and jumping on this bandwagon before the spring. I could use the mpg's back and I am thinking this would ride a bit more comfortable on the highway then the current air brake I typically have bolted to my truck.
Would love to hear from anyone who made the move from a classic RTT to this type of setup? How much smaller is this footprint then my 94'x54' oldschool RTT? What other benefits are there to this style? Is there insulation on the sides? Anyone doing any winter camping with it? East coast here...NJ 08234. Chandler is it too far to ship?

I came from a CVT Mt Shasta. This tent is definitely smaller, intended for a solo or a cuddly couple. I changed because the other was too cumbersome for myself to load on and off the truck and to set up and pack away easily. This hardshell takes 1 minute to setup and maybe 1 minute to tear down. Simple. It rides much better in the wind, my cvt was on my shell so it was like having a house for a wind block up there. It is very cozy. Insulated well, the sides were cool to the touch when I woke up in about 30 degrees weather in Kentucky. No different than the cvt as far as warmth for me, but the mattress is more comfortable in the hardshell. It has less headroom but I am able to sit up in it, that's at me being 5'10" no matter what @dan0mite says.

If you're considering it, I'd say do it. I'm glad I did and never looking back.

@Joshua Lees I've got @stronghammer CVT now and the asshole parked right next to me in KY and deployed his new tent. Totally made me jealous with the ease of use.

Too funny!! Has Chandler shipped one of these to the east coast yet? How bad is the shipping? What is the footprint of the hard shell when closed? I have a typical RTT mounted to my shell 3 seasons out of the year, so if I can increase my mpg and make life easier for take down and setup—this may have to be my big purchase at the end of the winter!
Who wants to buy an RTT

Hey, being in NJ isn’t an issue. Foot print is larger, about the width of your cab and about 7ft long. As far as mpg goes I’m not sure if you’ll gain much but it’s much more stealthy as it just looks like an oversized yakima/thule cargo box which looks way better imo.

I came from a traditional soft shell RTT, I have my reasons why I left that behind to never look back. If you have the room to mount it, and it’s only you and one other person then it’s the best solution imo.

Yea, I saw that Chandler was personally delivering these to buyers. I was doubting he would want to plan a cross country trip to NJ just to deliver a tent for little ole me, but if he does for any reason, then the first round is on me!
I am gonna sub to the thread and weigh my options here. If my current RTT sells, then I have no excuse.

Has anyone mounted one of these on a long bed mid-height bed rack? I'm trying to figure out what the overhang will look like once mounted.

Well I thought I sent you a message, soon as I got home that was the first thing I opened for a drink haha. It’s a pretty good whisky, the wife loves it too. Thanks again for the bottle, always good to get something that we don’t have around here
