What a difference changing the speakers made

I put Kicker 6 3/4 in the rear doors and JBL 6x9 components in the front and it sounds so much better. Best 250 I’ve spent on the truck so far

 

Which models for the speakers?

 

I used the JBL Club 9600c for the front and Kicker 43CSC674 for the rear doors. I bought a ********* tweeter wiring harness for the front component speakers so I did not have to cut any oem wiring. They sound so much better!!!

 

Just wait until you upgrade your HU. That will amaze you!

 

I’m going to keep the stock headunit. I’m going to get the OEM audio + sub, amp and wiring kit. I know it’s over priced but I want to keep the stock look as well as all the steering wheel controls. I want to stay away from cutting any of the OEM wiring.

 

Now I just need to find and get rid of the new rattle in the passenger side door and everything will be good to go

 

An aftermarket HU with a maestro iDatalink and a set of harnesses will allow you to have all OEM controls, USB, etc without cutting/splicing anything.

 

XM radio and factory mic location as well?

 

XM yes, comes in with the harness.

Forgot about the mic. People wire the HU's mic to the same location as the OEM one.

You also won't have navigation instructions appear in the little center cluster display if you currently have OEM navigation. This doesn't matter to me since I'll be using google maps or waze on the main screen.

 

How difficult was to install the speakers? I need to upgrade mine also. The premium package without JBL sucks.

 

It was pretty easy to do the install. I’ve never done any audio stuff before and it was no problem. I did buy a trim removal kit a soldering iron and heat shrink tubing off Amazon and they made the install much easier.

 

@Kbuds2000 nice! You have a picture of the trim removal kit? Also, why’d you buy a soldering iron? The speakers are not plug n play? And lastly, why not go with the same brand speakers for the front and back?

I apologize for all the questions, looking to upgrade my speakers also. The Tacoma speakers are horrific.

And that’s the soldering iron.

I used the ********* tweeter adapter for the component speakers so the front speakers were not plug n play. The back speakers are plug n play with the wiring kit ceutchfield will send with the speakers. I went with different speakers in the front bc kicker didn’t have a 6x9 component set so I went with the jbl club series. It sounds so much better now

Look at the ********* website and watch the video for installing component speakers in the front doors. You can order the wiring kit from them I think it’s only 20 bucks. You use that adapter to run wires to the crossover and then you will run wires to the tweeter and the 6x9. I soldered the wires from the crossover the the connectors for each speaker. I did not cut any oem wires. Here’s a link to the video
