Not being snarky here, but how much double checking is needed for adjustable wrenches and screw drivers? Some tools, any one I lay my hands on is the right tool. For those I have a Rubbermaid style box, 1 has all philips, 1 has all standard etc. Just reach in the right box and done.

Np, but I generally don't use adjustable wrenches. I mostly use sockets and gearwrenches. Perhaps that's partly why we prefer different styles - we use different tools (And maybe I'm just worse at judging size than you :D). At work time is of the essence, and it's not all that uncommon to have some of the other guys working out of my box if it's more convenient. So it's hard to keep track of where I last put something. The foam would help a lot

Yes, the idea isn’t so much organization as accountability- it provides a means to quickly and efficiently account for all the tools (very important in aviation).

Ooh aviation tech, I have questions but I'll hold off haha. I've seen some aviation tool boxes and I totally get why you guys would totally block out everything. Can't lose a tool in what you were working on and it isn't too often a new tool gets introduced.

Meanwhile I'm over here wondering why a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee has SAE drivetrain bolts and Metric body fasteners. And while I ponder that I can curse the gods that they use three different fuel line quick connect sizes. I am beginning to wonder why I offer to help friends with their American vehicles haha.

Something I’ve always wondered is why metric sockets are SAE on the other end. I wonder what size ratchets are in other countries.

Hell no, can't do it, if I did I would find out that I missing sockets or a wrench and that would drive me even more crazy. Inventive idea though.

This is partly why I did it! Sometimes I will “lose” tools and then buy replacements... then days later I will find the damn thing and now i have extras. I’m hoping the new organization method will keep me from buying “replacements.”

If you need to get rid of some of those "replacements" I'd do you a favor and take 'em off your hands :D

The only way to find anything is to replace it. I have like 90 caulking guns... somewhere.

you guys would have a heart attack in my garage.

I'm working on it though. It's surprising how easy it is to find things when it's organized.

I've often scratched my head on that one, too. I picture a Japanese guy saying something I can't understand ". . . millimeter . . . three eighths drive".

I went this way with organization. Granted, this is my garage and not my place of work.

I did something similar with my toolbox. I got the puzzle piece garage floor foam things from Home Depot. I then spent way too much time measuring all of my wrenches and sockets and designed an Illustrator file to laser cut the foam. Here is the finished product.
