My 17 Limited with BSM doesn’t seem to be working? Does anyone know where the sensors are? I have BSM on my other vehicles and it works great! It is turned on as the light is on the switch.

Rear Bumper, you make just have dirt or snow on the sensors.

I’ve only got a few hundred miles on it. It’s never been in the rain or snow or mud. The only mod I’ve done was switching out the limited tail lights to the off road tail lights that are Toyota OEM.

I figured the sensors were not in the lights as there were no extra plugs I missed.

I guess it’s time for a trip to the local dealer.

Do you have a message on the dash about it not working? It shows one normally when it malfunctions. Otherwise it only lights up the notification in the mirrors when someone is there and over a certain speed. No beeps or other visual indications.

Yes, it's on, the green light on the button in the center of the dash is green. No malfunction of any kind. I press the button off and on the the BSM icon shows up on the mirrors for a few seconds and goes dark. Green light on the button stays on indicating it's on.

It works flawless in my other vehicles. In my Benz it's ruthless. Even at a dead stop it lights up letting me know someone is beside me in orange. Red for not clear and orange for caution and nothing for all clear. I get a tone as well. There is no turning it off. On all the time. I use it all the time so I know it works.

The truck is another story. Come to think of it. I don't recall it working at all. I turned it on when I left the dealership where I bought it. It's been on ever since, I don't recall seeing any icon in the mirror. I drove it home during rush hour so it should have been working then. I'll try it again this evening when I go home. I come and go during my morning commute as well and nothing. There is plenty of traffic too.

I've been using the Lexus and Benz as my wife just had a knee job just before Thanksgiving and getting in and out of the truck is a PITA for her. So I've been doing all the driving until last week. The Lexus and Benz I can drop the entry height and ride as they both ride on air bags. It's a whole lot easier for her to get in and out of. So the truck has been sitting for a while.

I'll give it a try this evening and see what happens and report back.

I pulled the owners manual. It’s supposed to beep and flash when turned on. I got the flash but no beep! Houston there’s a problem! Also I drove it at lunch time got zero on the lights when in traffic. Owners manual does state I have to be going over 10mph. The only adjustment seems to be the sensors for cross path? No malfunction light what so ever. Damn it!

Well it works today! Took it to lunch today and turned it on, got the icon on the mirrors and the beep. The icon lit up on several occasions when I passed and got passed. The threat of taking it in resolved itself! Damn thing!!

Mine stopped working after the first major snowfall in the fall of 2015.... I took it in and they knew nothing, so I let it go for 10 months because I have mirrors too. hehe....

I then took it in again....they now had others going bad and said they would fix it.... 2 more trips in and they finally replaced part of the wiring harness...... Apparently the left rear sensor is very vulnerable to water/ice/snow, etc...!!

    It's worked ever since..:fingerscrossed:

And I thought my Benz was quirky!! This mechanical hunk of metal and plastic is an abomination of piss poor engineering from the ground up. I'm not feelin the love with this truck! The transmission shifting in the morning is an absolute mind blowing experience. The only thing I've not experienced is the leaking brake light on the roof. Don't even get me started with the Tundra. That truck needs a serious makeover intervention! I can see why Toyota is losing it's buyers!!

Mine just went kaput today, I'll check it for snow or something if not just get it fixed at my next service. It did give me the info on the dash computer with the warning and the info that it failed.

I've only got a little over 1K on the ODO as of yesterday. I drive my Benz most of the time. My thought process was on the first Toyota Care I would bring up the transmission slamming about in the morning. I've not looked at the build date in the door jam. But suspect is not too far off from when bought it. So were all the updates applied during production? I suspect not!!

The hood also vibrates profusely as well. If there are beads of water on the hood it's pretty comical to watch the beads jump up and down.

This is the second model year run on the 2017 and most of these crap @$$ engineering anomalies should have been well fixed by now!! If I was a betting man I'd bet Toyota pushed this down to the dealer level to be fixed only when someone complained would action be taken. Thus saving production costs.

The rear differential snafu was a result of the differential not being filled up to the proper level. Someone got the bright notion to half @$$ the job. Look we saved $$$ on gear lube!! We cut production costs!! We all get bonuses!! :(

Any way I feel like I bought a domestic branded truck and not a Toyota!!

I'll report back when I have it serviced.

They are under the plastic bumper caps on the left and right side. Why are you asking?
