I'll go first. I've got some money in WPRT right now, just bought today expecting to rebound after a big fall. I usually keep an eye on solid performers to gauge the general market.

I generally like to follow natural gas stock. I think it may be easier to adopt than electric or solar at least for the time being and may become widespread. All speculation.. best to just know what you're looking at

just a general bit for 401k. always make sure you are contributing enough to take advantage of your company's match if they offer it. take advantage of that free dough.

keep in mind though, most company's have a vesting period for the amount they contribute to your plan.

whats the general feeling down there? it's starting to feel pretty gloomy up here in Canader. Our dumb ass politicians have created such a mess that companies are leaving everyday. Electricity is up like crazy, gas is over $1.20/L or $4 Gal same for diesel. Carbon taxes, they just raised the minimum wage from $11.4 to $14. it's all driving inflation up.
There's a battle over Alberta oil brewing, it's locked in the province, can't build pipelines east or west, can't ship it by rail as it's getting too expensive, our Alberta crude is selling at $40/bbl.
Housing prices are so high I don't know how people can afford them, unless they were already in the market.
legalizing weed was a big driver and job creator but now they've changed the legalization date to no specific date.
1 little hiccup and we're toast.

Yeah, I hate vesting periods. I left my last job early because the raise I was going to get at the new job outweighed losing the vested 401k amount. Now all I have to do is wait a year and they'll fully match after. Much better.

I've heard about the housing market up there, being driven through the roof by Chinese investors. I heard there's a possible oil shale boom coming up there though. Is that right?

Everything is in a bubble now.

Things are reeking like the '87 crash.

Want to know what the stock market is going to do, watch the bond market. It has been selling off like crazy. That, in addition to the flattening yield curve, 10 yr treasury rate at about 2.75%, the equities market does not like it, which is causing the recent sell-off in equities (stock market).

It's definitely plausible. The fed is so scared to touch interest rates because the economy must be built on a house of cards. The Dow is starting to retreat a bit... maybe a correction or maybe people are getting iffy.

I'm in the iffy jittery camp. Ready to sell at any minute.
Under this current gov which we have for another 2 years, there wont be any oil boom. They're totally anti oil. We bring in about 26 billion a year of foreign oil instead of refining ours.
Our housing market is nuts, I'm near Toronto, about 45 to downtown and a detach house is over $500k, 400sqft condos downtown are over $400k, detach houses downtown are over 1 mil.
If our lending rates go up we will certainly crash.

Recently moved jobs and had about $3500 in their 401k. Moved it into an IRA and just parked it in some in-house ETFs for another 35 years...

Not really any other options out there for that money. So whatever, I'll let it sit there.

But I did find out this week my new HSA is invest-able, so that's fun.

HSAs are so much better than FSAs because the money doesn't reset every year.. so you can put as much pre-tax money you want in it... well up to a certain amount per year anyways. I would recommend putting at least enough to cover your deductible + out of pocket costs if something bad ever happened (that is, if you have a high-deductible health plan)

The news outlets sure were quick to say stocks were "getting hammered" this morning. It's like they want it to happen. People read it, freak out... cycle continues

Doubt it. Tomorrow or Wednesday might bounce a little due to shorts covering, but expect a downward trend in chk and the entire market for a while. Hope I’m wrong
