Well from everything I have read, with the ARB you are getting the strongest setup. With the trutrack it engaging on corners may be an issue. However, it is an option. Also, what gears are you going with? If you are every thinking of running 35's consider 4.88's since your an auto

I think when I talked to to ECG I was at $4500 US for thirds (thats without me sending my thirds back). Now thats about $5500 Cnd with shipping (you have a p.o box so it may be cheaper). I am sure I would have gotten the compressor with that deal. I am currently at a little over that with some extra parts (cam guests, spindle gussets, ball joints, LCA parts) but no labour for the actual gear setup. Plus I will be wiring the compressor and switches.

Just to give you some comparisons in price. I am getting my gears setup locally by ct motorsports.

Also in terms of the dependability of the arb, the biggest thing is the compressor and the solenoids. I have read guys just bring a extra solenoids and the compressor there is a 5 year warranty from arb who stands behind their product.

Out on the trail if something were to fail it just means no locker...nothing that would affect your ability to get home. I am biased towards ARB since thats the route I am going. Figured a auto locker wouldn't be as good on the streets and if it does blow up your done.

Front and rear swap (ecgs built, shipped to Detroit) $2915 with a $800 core charge. So I'm looking at $2115 for a regear to 4.56 and a trutrac locker rear. Us dollars

Totally agree with ARB looking like the strongest option. Everybody seems to say the same thing about them pretty much indestructible. The thing I have to think about is my actual usage of the vehicle and how often I go off-roading. And with my luck, most likely I'm going to break an airline or some other thing is going to fuck up while I'm out on the trail. I do have to do some more research on the True-Track as I only skimmed over some of the people's reviews on Tacoma world. But from what I'm seeing a lot of people are happy with what they're getting from the product. As of right now, I don't plan on running 35s on this truck.

Thats a big difference in price. The Arbs pretty much double the price. Seems like for your setup an use it makes sense. I think based on what your saying and use the trueurac should be good. I know there is an eaton locker as well. Plus you are just looking at a rear locker eh? in the rear they are pretty reliable. In the front you dont have a choice if you want it to be on the street.

Honestly, for the two times a year that I attempt (insert breaking something joke here) to go on trails, I can't justify the price of installing a front Locker. The gears on the other hand, I find I need on a daily. I'm mostly city driving stop and go and always with some kind of weight. Between the armor I currently have on the truck and tools and materials I'm always carrying around ,and now 33 inch tires I find the skinny peddle lacks response. I thought of 4.10 but they don't make sense once the weight is added to the equation.

lol Yeah I am still waiting to run a trail with ya.

Yeah totally makes sense. I agree on the gears. For me and the weight I was at with the tires, my 40-70km/h was really hard on the tranny. Even on hills on he highway I would have to drop it down to 4th...I was in your shoes, but I decided may as well over gear and do it once. Especially with the weight. I have heard guys going to 4.88s with 33's but thats way too much. I think your making a good decision with 4.56 and 33's with your weight setup.

Is there a difference in reliability between the lsd diff and a trutrac? I would imagine a mechanical locker to be more reliable than clutch packs and electronic components.

hard to say. The e-lockers on our trucks are pretty good except for the solenoid portion like the 4wd actuator. However, the e-locker can be unlocked manually if every in a jam. Issues with mechanical ones is if they do break, its a big bang. Also, if your bumping and spinning the wheels and they engage shit can go boom. But in some cases you need to spin for them to engage. The LSD in our diffs isn't really locked, we still get one wheel peels. Just have to drive accordingly with it.

FOr me once I lock the diffs I will be driving slowly and not skinny pedalling it. Thats one reason I got the lockers so I could have more control and not have to floor it to get up shit. But I think with the auto lockers you have to spin a bit for them to engage. However, Im not to educated on the different types. I just went arbs...just had to figure out what gearing for the arb locker I wanted..

With your luck it's going to lock in a snow covered corner sending you onto curb and exploding the diff

yup.. Plus last year, the skinny pedal caused a lot of me bouncing up obstacles which probably led to some of the damage I had. Like my bump stops falling off. The bed damage was the worst though....

    dem gaps though

Please explain. A full Detroit locker I can see behaving like the but people with a truetrac haven't reported that kind of behavior.

You know, I often question that. Is it really bad luck or is it good luck? I mean, I swamped the truck yes, but I did drive it home 650 kilometers without any issues. I did snap a leaf spring, but I did get a set free from all Pros fucked-up customer service. I guess its all a matter of perspective...

is the glass half full or half empty? Or are you just lucky to have something to drink? All depends on how you look at it. Of all the events that have happened you have had the best possible outcome.

Will you blow up your rear diff entering ardbeg? Lol
But really not a fan of auto . Much rather selectable. Much better control.

Only place I've heard auto is ok is front. But even then rather selectable

auto is only okay in the rear. You need a selectable in the front.

have in backwards. That why they have detroits and stuff stock on some cars back in the day on the rears. nothing upfront as shit would go boom

out of curiosity was it because the trutrac isn't as reliable? Also keep an eye out for the deals where you get the free compressor....Easy way to save $400 or $1000 if they give you the wrong compressor like they did for me :D
